Well like I said before: Its sort a joke since MB has SO MANY different models out now, but at least they tried to make it unique and not just cut off the S roof, it seems to have different grill, panels, lights etc. Also ,it is somewhat ugly to me, but interesting at the same time. WTF?

I still don't like it. It's a lot better than just cutting the roof off of a regular S-Class though, I'll admit that.

Is this one of those "answer to the question nobody asked" things, or did someone actually ask?

Not into convertibles. Coupes have always looked better on any model that has a convertable cousin.

If the actual production model (which is inevitable) will look similar to this, i think it's going to sell very well. I think there is definitely a market, albeit small, that would be willing to spend that kind of money on a soft top luxury convertible/sedan, especially in warm weather states, as long as they have a garage to keep it in. As it was previously stated, i'm glad that it is not just an s class with the pillars and roof chopped, i think they did a good job with revising the body styling.

I think this would be a absurd idea for Mercedes!

I would be very disappointed and begin questioning their designers as well as their reputation if they put this car out. You already have the SL and the CL (a coupe and a convertible) for the S-Class, why now make a whole big, ugly boat?

The people in warm weather states should buy an SL or even a SLK/CLK, not an S-Class Convertible. And please don't use the excuse that they'll need all 4/5 seats, when have you ever seen someone rich driving his whole family in a convertible?

It's just plain ugly, I'm just going to admit that.

Exclamation Omg

Excuse my french but OMG that f****** hot. Lets be honest the SL is no echelon of luxury. There's nothing special. It's more sport. Hell the air/conditioning knobs are like those of lower tiered Mercedes like the E350 and the Suvs. Even the e550/e500 is digital. i hate that about the SL maybe its just me. I think it would be better if you had a hardtop convertible CL. I think we can all agree that the CL is much more S-Class and exudes much more lucury than an SL. The SL has been cheapy since 03'. Great car but cheapy compard to the S-class. This car should be a limited production thing and they should re-focus their efforts on a 2-door convertible with S-class luxury: this sounds like the CL.

Just my $1

I would rather see a CL convertible, than a 4 door. That just doesn't make sense. But then again, it is a concept, and it probably won't get made.

Oh and "Ocean Drive????" What is this a new Buick model with a name like that.

Btw, wouldn't it make more sense to make some kind of Maybach convertible at that price point?

Mercedes all the way!
i think the lines are really lovely - the profile is HOT and i like the rear lights... but i'm unsure about the front: yes i can understand the idea of having a big grille, but this is really huge.. and those headlights.......

in any case, here are more pics:

This thing needs to be a 2 door, but then it may take sales away from the flagship SL roadster....like I said before if this goes into production it may be the last straw....what is that 40 different models now? Maybe if it was a Maybach, etc. level car it would make more sense.

You can bet it will sell in Dubai...:-) At a price somewhere between the S600 and S65 it will be a very limited and exclusive car.

I don't understand how it is possible to compare this with an SL, it's a completely different car. I would assume the point of this large, 4 'true' seater convertible is to enter a market where they currently don't have a presence, along with the fact that there is not much competition.

I like the lines, however the headlights need some work. This car is meant to be competitive with the new Bentley drop top. Which is on back order until 2009. People who are waiting for the Bentley or who can't get on the order list may want this car. I doubt MB builds this car unless the interest is very high.

To be honest, I'm sure several people would buy it just because they have the money, but I don't think it'd be popular in Dubai. Convertibles aren't anyway (still too much dust), but I think at that price range is becomes very tricky to stay loyal to Mercedes. Nowadays you can get the Aston Martin V8 Vantage at the price of an SL65... so while the SL65 is a better sports car, has greater performance, the Aston Martin has the name and the exclusivity - which is what people in Dubai prefer. So, if this car sold, it'd be hard to sell this over a Bentley Continental Convertible. Say what you want about those low end exotic brands but at the end of the day it sounds very prestigious to say, "I drive an Aston Martin", or "I drive a Bentley", or "I drive a Lamborgini (Gallardo)."
