Cool!

Personally I prefer the straight black, I think, on the S-class. Especially on an AMG.

That's if it's kept in top condition.

But that's just personal opinion. I think it's very much an issue of your own taste, and I'm sure you'll get opinions both ways.

But I'm very interested in your order. What is the MSRP on the S63 and what options did you get? What options are standard compared to the S65 or S550?

Never mind, I realize you might not be in the US. In which case, never mind about the price question.

I am in the US (CT) and I ordered it unpriced as they

haven't released figures yet. I am freindly with the dealer and can change out if it comes in too high. But the S600 just looks boring and I have driven them and am a little puzzled by performance responses on this forum. The s600 is no quicker 0-60 then my s55 (though it is torqier) for what's 20k more.

Only options listed right now are pano (passed) night vision (passed) rear seat pak (passed). No wheel options listed but I will have time before production if they add. I just wanted to get my order in. While I like the s65 as well, it's bad enough having the 63 as a daily driver, the 65 is still a little over the top for that duty.

When do you expect the car will be produced? And when do you think pricing will be available?

I'm with you on the S600. It just doesn't float my boat. For the S63, I believe you can also order the 030 package (I did), and Distronic Plus (I ordered that, too). I also skipped the pano (I have it on my E55, and just don't see the advantage), and the back seat package.

love my obsidian.....cant say anything about true black. Obsidian seems a little lighter....kinda like it has a very faint glitter in it. I have no evidence, but im guessing swirls wont be so noticeable with obsidian.

You ordered an S63 with the 030 pkg? which dealer did you go through? I was told that the 030 pkg w-upgraded brakes, LSD etc was not available with either S63/S65

Thanks for the input. Do you know if they are including the LSD with this package? seems kind of strange that they didn't have it available for the S65

According to AMG over at the Private Lounge, content is the other TBD. They will post it when they decide for sure.

I think it's likely the LSD will be part of it. It's also likely that it will be added to the S65 as standard equipment at the same time. It will probably also include S65 brakes, I'd guess. We will have to wait and see.

Black lacquer interior as part of the Performance Package? That would be too weird.

AMG
If you want power you better get S600 + AMG PAKAGE + renntech ECU = almost as fast as S65. I think its a way better pakage.

As a guy who makes his living looking after black cars almost exclusively, I can tell you that unless you have a very good detail man, or love to spend lots of your time cleaning and polishing your car, you will be much happier with the Obsidian (metallic) black. Nothing looks better than a perfectly detailed black car, but they're rarely perfectly detailed.
You're gonna get a great car either way, and if you've already owned black, then you know the drill.

So there is a difference between maintenance of a black versus metallic black colour? That's interesting...didn't know that.

Reminds me of an instance a few years ago when I considered getting and then new E46 M3 in Carbon Black when the dealer principal said to me "it's still very close to a black colour when it comes to keeping it clean, it's dirty if you just look at it the wrong way!"

I ordered my S550 in Black Opal, which is technically a blue metallic colour, though looks black under certainly lighting conditions - I just hope it's not a bear to keep clean.

Don't get me wrong, any dark color is going to be more difficult to care for and look dirtier faster than any light color. You want easy, buy silver It's just that straight black will show microscratches and swirlmarks much more readily than a dark metallic.
