I've been to two dealers and they have said that they won't negotiate on the MSRP. I called the bluff on one and said "Fine, I won't get it then". They still won't budge.

Did you guys pay MSRP?

If not, how much did you guys go under?

Back in July of 2006 - I got my 2007 S550. It was just a few months since its release and I STILL got $2000 off MSRP. Now - with dealerships FILLED with
S550s....... you could get $6000 off i bet. Maybe more, depending on options. I know if the car has ABC or AMG package, you wont be able to get that much off.

I got 2K off my 2006 E55, 1K off my 2007 GL450 and I got 3 1/2% off my 2007 S65. My business partner is purchasing a 722 SLR and is getting 5% off sticker for that one.

MSRP, because I consider the S a luxury automobile. As such, I do not haggle price; just as I would not haggle price on Louis Vuitton. If I want it, I get it.

Hmm... That's a funny mentality. The 2 things you can negotiate for are usually the 2 most expensive things the average person buys in life - a house and a car. A Louis Vuitton bag/luggage cost $1,000 - who cares, haggling is ridiculous; but a house costs - i.e. $400K, so haggling over $10K is certainly worth it. Whether you have money or not, I think negotiating is just a smart business move, otherwise you just get riped off.

At the end of the day it's your money, but it's funny when someone drives the same exact car, or possible even better than yours and paid $3K-$4 less.

I dont mean to sound insulting - but u are the definition of a world class snob.....and you are mistaken in your post. Louis Vuitton is sold at their boutiques or in high end department stores. It is not the place to bargain..... because it is NOT how it is sold. You can wait for something to go on sale before purchasing - but Im sure you must know that LV does not go on sale..... ever.

There is not a person in the world that would not ask a dealer for a discount. Donald Trump himself purchased his car from MB Manhattan paid LESS than MSRP. It doesnt mean you are CHEAP - it means you are in full realization of the value of the hard earned dollar.

And yes - the poster who brought up real estate... He is absolutely correct. NO ONE takes an "asking" price as final word. PLEASE dont tell me you do this ... Its just a first price to jump start negotiations. Same as a car! Whether its a honda or a mercedes. Someone buying a $20,000 Honda will ask to pay $18,500 or whatever. Someone buying a $100,000 Mercedes will ask for $94,000. Somehow - a deal will be made with both parties meeting in the middle.

If you want to go in and pay full MSRP for a Mercedes S Class.... thats your choice - but wouldnt you rather try to save a few thousand and put it towards something else?

It's not as snobby as much as it is 'dumb'. I'm sorry. But why would you willing pay more than you have to? It just doesn't make sense to me. CEO's who are millionaires understand the value of dollar, because they work out tremendous deals. American-Airlines, the world's largest airliner, works out deals with Boeing for a $40 million aircraft the same way it does with the cater for a $0.20 plastic cup.

I guess when the dealers are pushing the 06 S or SL out the door for like 15k off of the MSRP...I should tell them, please .. charge me the sticker price because it's high class. hahahaha

Well noted - you want to hint to the forum that my parents paid for the car instead of me....something that really is not important to any of the viewers here....We just like to enjoy our cars...For the record, I was very well paid at my previous company that designs / manufactures designer clothing, and I resigned to start my own clothing line under my own label and manufacturing....If all my money goes into the development of the collection... and my parents feel they wish to give me a gift of a car.... is that really important? ..... Whether they paid or I paid - $2000 was taken off MSRP at time of purchase. Take ur childish banter elsewhere dude.

I called a few dealerships in the interest of getting a new car. I was told to go see Glauser Mercedes - they told me theyd give me $2k off the car - payment was sent. 02S430 - u are right. what does his comment have anything to do with that? Its my car. I drive it only and It is in my name. Whether the payment came from my wallet or my parents is obsolete.

Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) was set in 1911 to bar manufacturers from dictating the minimum prices retailers can charge for their products. Price competition is the central nervous system of the economy. In effect MSRP is ALWAYS negotiable! In fact, try your hardest for invoice. The dealer is still making a comfortable profit. IMHO if you wait a couple of months I would not be surprised if you can get a 08 S550 at a very substantial discount. As far as MBUSA is concerned all one has to do is shop around. Email as many dealers as you can nationwide then simply see if your local dealer(s) will match or better the best offer received. If not, arrange for pickup or delivery from the lowest bidder. Remember, no matter who you buy from the dealer of choice has to honor manufacturer warranty service, etc. Personally, I have yet to pay MSRP not only for vehicles (most always purchased before their model year comes in – i.e. 06 CLS in 05 @ invoice), but for anything. Not even high end signature limited edition apparel upon release. Case in point, I own a large collection of Nat Nast – all purchased at a negotiated discount through their Trunk Shows.

European delivery will take about 7% from MSRP. That is without any haggle at all. I have taken delivery in Germany at the full price, but the dealer paid for the "Black Forrest Package" and wrangled a 2 for 1 ticket on Luftansa.

On other cars, I calculate the dealers actual cost (about 5% below INVOICE on most MBZ) subtract the dealer incentives (trunk money), add 2% for the dealer, plus tax, & license. I then cut a check for the specific car on a dealers lot and present it to the sales manager directly. (Not speaking to any salesman.) Human nature makes it hard for them to turn down that deal. Especially hard if it is near the end of a sales period, and he needs the unit sold to qualify for hard to get cars. Don't try this with anything AMG or cars on allocation.


You can also join the Mercedes Club of America. After one year of membership, you can get a cash rebate from MBUSA for a couple of grand or so depending on model.
