those are sweet rims and front spoiler on your sig....by the way, this bickering about suspension is fruitless. The "feel" of a car...the connection you get to the road....it all depends on the suspension. You can modify parts of any suspension or wheels/tires to get better "feel". You guys are really bickering about what stock suspension feels like this or that...and that really means you are bickering about which engineers did what with whatever budget they were given.

Looks wise, the new LS is OK (every time I drive next to one Im not impressed in the least)...but the new S is awesome (everytime I drive next to one I check it out and think it would probably be my choice for a flagship sedan). Driving wise we can agree that theyre pretty close compared to a real drivers car, but the S still has that german feel we all love....well most of us anyhow.

That's not the only Mercedes ever made, I've only owned about 10 MBZ, what do I know
People can see the 7 series in a lexus but cant find the mopar craftsmanship or the MBZ styling in the Chrysler line

Nope none at all, maybe in a C Class and the only so called lux cars i see stranded on the side of the road are BMs, oh wait, i was stranded on the side of the road in a benz once when i ran out of gas . . .Originally Posted by Braheem

In the end... it's still a lexus.

The LS looks amazing...hell I love the LS460. But the LS600 may be another story. What irks me is how much they've spent advertising fuel economy of a V8 or something and performance of a V12.
Fuel economy may be the same as a V8, maybe even worse depending on how you drive, but it has nowhere near the performance of a V12.

Braheem, I think that possibly what the others on this board are trying to say about the Lexus is that no matter how many high-tech gadgets they put in it, it'll never be a Mercedes. It just doesn't have that aura, that Mercedes feel and, let's be honest, image.
Plus, based on recent magazine test drives of the new LS600, it's actually a good bit slower than an S550.
But yes, it is definitely still a very very nice car, but just not quite up to an S550, much less an S600, which is leagues above in performance terms.

The S class and the LS cannot be compared because they are going after two different customers. LS is a Luxury riding car and the S Class is more sporty. But if you really want a sporty ride then buy the BMW 7 even though it is ugly. That said the Benz's that have been produced after 2000 are total garbage. They have consistently gone lower in all JD Power and Consumer Report ratings in quality. I have had a C320, E500 and a S430 in our family and all of them are unreliable and rust buckets ( Canada hence the shortest rust warranty of all the luxury manufacturers ). Not to mention service is horrible compared to Lexus. I have just recently traded in my S-class in for the GS and I can tell you I am completely happy that I did. Mercedes is heading in totally the wrong direction with quality and design. When BMW came out with the 7 series people criticized the Bangle butt looking trunk lid and then Mercedes goes and does a similiar looking trunk, then the interior uses the ugly looking painted metallic buttons that you see on the chrysler cars. With the Lexus atleast you get quality materials but the LS460 could use a little more pizzaz in the interior while the exterior is tastefully done without copying BMW trunk.
After experiencing the garbage that Mercedes is putting out I can't understand why anyone will buy this junk other than for prestige and tell their friends that they have a Merc. It is THE MOST UNRELIABLE MANUFACTURER OUT OF 36 auto manufacturers in Consumer Reports it is not the most sporty handling which is BMW and if you want the most Luxurious then that goes to Lexus. So the question is why people buy the Mercedes? Answer = Prestige only or your word aura
Lexus doesn't want to be a Mercedes at the current moment I believe because that would not be beneficial to Lexus with all the current problems that Mercedes is having.
Flame suit on

No offense to BMW owners.

The S class is in a different league than the LS. The S class is definatly a better car in terms of technology..speed...luxury. You can't really compare the S class and the LS..... I would never pay $100k+ for a Lexus, it reminds me of the V-Dub Phaeton, a car that costs to much for the "brand" so to speak.
Comparing the S class to the 7 series however, is definatly a better comparison.

You don't see heads of country's and people of power driving around in a lexus or BMW, you see them being driven in Mercedes Benz S Classes and for good reason
The S Class will always be the epitome of luxury sedans, no car in the world has the feel or prestige of a Mercedes, BMWs have ugly body styling, lacking interiors and slow band of power, Lexus feels like all other Japanese cars with leather and wood thrown in
The S Class is a meld of luxury, sport, elegance and reliability in a way that no other car company has been able to touch since the first S Class was released
Historically the S Class has set the standard for car technologies that all other car companies copy in the future such as ABS, Airbags, Seat belts and not to mention the internal combustion engine powered automobile itself which was first built for practical use by Karl Benz in 1885
So you can make that picture in your sig as big as you want it won't make the car anything more than a glamorized Toyota

Correct I said S-classes from 2000 on so your older mercedes are well built cars but the current ones are still garbage according to many mercedes owners that are contacted by leading industry publications such as JD POWER AND CONSUMER REPORTS to take their survey.Originally Posted by CharlestonN

JD Powers is a complete joke. It's not as accurate as you think. Those who have unreliable cars and are disgruntled are more likely to complete the survey just to have the feeling that they're opinion is being heard.
Those with completely reliable cars simply toss it aside and take the time that would have been spent filling out the survey and drive the car. That's my view on it.

Thats just a cop out argument people who are completely happy with their vehicles have just as much incentive to boast about their vehicles as disgruntled owners just like this forum which have people happy and unhappy with their cars. What Toyota and Lexus owners are different and they like to boast about their cars and MB owners don't. Are you saying MB owners are whiners like me
and other manufacturers don't have similiar owners that whine. The fact is that you may be one of the few who actually is lucky enough to get a MB without problems.
If JD Power was so useless then explain why Mercedes Benz have resigned with JD Power to use there data and why almost every manufacturer uses JD Power to judge their own quality.
You still are using opinion to argue your points start showing me some facts. I am not trying to say the MB drives bad as I mentioned that MB and Lexus are going after different customers as well as BMW. I am saying it is unreliable and that the quality is going the wrong way since to 2000 and that facts back up my experience and information given to me by mechanics and bodyshop people.

riger, have you owned a new MBZ product?
The new W221 (S class) has no major problems and is far more reliable than JD powers would like you to think. The updated E class again has no major problems.
So do some research before you open your mouth. Can you even afford a real car?
