This isn't from an equally long trip, I've got lower figures on longer trips although it likely means a bit lower average speed than 70 mph too.

6.9 l/100 km equals 34.1 miles per US gallon.

Yikes, my first highway trip was 15.1 mpg

Granted, I just took delivery, but can things improve that much (from 15 to 27 mpg) after the break-in period? My old S500 delivered 24 mpg on the highway...

15???? My C55 gets 24 mpg normally.... Either you were averaging well into the triple digits or you're giving a mixed city/highway figure....

C55, not CL55 or something? I don't think it makes sense to compare S550 to C55.

The highway figure I acheived in the S550 is testament to how advanced the new DOHC 5.4 liter motor is... My C55 weighs more than 1000 lbs less and has the SOHC motor and can't achieve the same figure.. Granted the C55 has the 5-speed tranny and its not as slippery as the new S, but nevertheless 27.7 MPG is amazing given that the S550 also had the Sports pkg....

Whoa! That's impressive. Mine is between 18 to 20mpg. I guess I have a bit more lead in the foot or something.

sounds about right....at 50-60mph on a long drive i was annoying my GF every time it ticked up.....reached 30mpg. Usualy highway drives i get 25-26. The calculator STARTS calculating at 21mpg and then goes up from there if you dont leadfoot it.

Is this a typo on the MBUSA site or has new EPA evaluating procedures pushed the 08' S550's fuel economy way down?

I think the EPA measures went from best case to average case scenario.

Nevada Jack got 25 plus on a long road trip. I think it was about 4,000 miles. So, I would think the 550 is capable of some pretty good mileage.

Wow, I'm jealous, my C240 only gets about 24/25 mpg on the highway.

New EPA tests have pushed fuel economy numbers down for all cars, not just the S550. Did you notice the S550 now has a $1300 gas guzzler tax instead of last year's $1000 tax?

According to mb.com, the 2008 numbers for the S600 is 11/17 and 13/20 for the S65. Has one of them not been updated with the new test or does the new test really result in those numbers? I can't imagine the S65 getting that much better mileage than the S600.

My 2008 S63 has 11 City and 17 Highway listed on the window sticker. I have been averaging around 15 - 17 combined - and it's not like I drive too sedately. IMO, the 2008 EPA numbers are VERY conservative.

Wow, that's low! But it also says that your average MPH was 20 so I assume this was mostly city driving.

My best...

I had posted this before but I think it is a good figure since it includes highway, city, idling, etc. Mostly highway cross country trip in May '06 and includes many miles at 75-90mph cruise.

It's totally unfair that my S430, which makes about 100 hp less than the S550, gets about the same MPG.

Agreed. But I still don't see why the S65 numbers are quite a bit better than (identical) S63 and S600 numbers. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind , but I wonder if it's a mistake.
