How much off a msrp on a new s550?

I wouldn't think so. Assuming your car is around $100K, the average mark up is 7% so you are talking about 8-9% off the MSRP. I doubt they would do this.
I would think maybe around $4000 would be about all they would deduct.
Just my opinion as I know very little about actual costs, kickbacks, etc. and how they all factor in. Below is an example where the difference in invoice and MSRP is only $6K : http://www.edmunds.com/new/2008/merc....html?action=2

You know they made profit at that price so I guess they can discount them $8K. I found one on ebay with a $5K discount. You never know sometimes.

BTW, has anyone had a chance to really look over an '08 and notice any , if any, exterior changes from the previous year? Any change in body molding no matter how slight, light housings, mirrors, etc??? So far, I haven't noticed anything. I know the interior had some slight mods but so far the exterior seems untouched.

Here are some changes on '08...
Trumpet Uno: External/Outside rear view mirrors have light arrow on glass surface for Blind Spot Assist if you order the new Distronics Plus (Option #266). Formerly, this option (then #233) was $2870 and didn't include BSA. Distronics + is now been lowered in price to $2010, making it a most unusual phenomenon in the Mercedes world of options - more content at a significant lower price. Guess they want to promote it for its safety features. In your model (S600), the '08 has a new chrome strip in the front air dam. This was a plastic part formerly painted in body color...and got lost. Now, in chrome, it stands out more. It is a small way to help differentiate the ultra expensive S600 from its lesser S550 (without the optional AMG exterior). The optional 19" wheel option has been changed to a better looking dual spoke design, which is a God-sent for easier cleaning. That is all I can think of at moment re: the outside. Inside, '08 S600 now has the Designo patterns of stitching on the seats and the v12 badge on the seat-backs as standard. The most noticeable minor change for everyone's interior (all newer '08 S/CL) is the removal of the dash switch for the cleaning of the headlights. This used to be to the right of the large round light switch module, balanced on the left by the Night Vision switch when so ordered. Now, the spot on right is vacant (and very black) on all cars since this headlight cleaning feature was recently discontinued as a switch and integrated into the window cleaning function when you turn the window wipers on (self cleans after a certain number of strokes). From a design point of view, the whole round light switch 'combo' on dash looks now unbalanced. MB should find a way to fill the vacant switch with an alternative function (hopefully by the mid-model design update in a few years) so that it looks 'complete' when you order a fully optioned car. I find it annoying when switch spaces on the dash of your super expensive car looks unfilled - like you cheapened out and didn't order all the exciting options they could have provided you with. Z356

Roughly 7% margin avail to dealers...
Dpds upon specific dealer's inventory situation....inventory capital costs aren't free and credit is tightening....sales of $100K+ cars are slowing and economy is softening...
Doubt buying any car is a financially efficient approach.....may want to price total ownership/oppty cost of capital/sales tx costs of $0-down, 2-3 yr leases vs buying....and consider/price all risks of owning vs leasing (lease gap insurance, etc)....MB Credit can play w/lease MF and residuals to quietly help move inventory...most cars are leased anyway....

Thanks. Now that you stated them, I can now remember seeing a couple of those items....The blind spot feature and the chrome strip on the front spoiler. Thanks for the update.

S600 Exhaust Pipes...
WSH, you are right, who could forget those 'lovely' new pipes (sorry Chris)? Overall, Mercedes has made the '08 S600 look much nicer with the Designo interior details on the leather -the bumps on the door panels, the stitching on the seats, the v12 badge. Notice that the CL600 started that look at its '07 introduction (stitching pattern, etc) and it gives this more expensive CL model a distinctive style over its lesser CL550 brethren. Together with the better 'Exclusive' Nappa leather (vs a grainier/coarser 'Premium' grade), the S600/CL600 models now have the best looking interior in the lineup - beating out the cross-stitched (Bentley-Mulliner style) S65/CL65 pattern by a mile. I sincerely hope the folks in Sindelfingen allow the '09 S63 and CL63 to sport a wider choice of 'Exclusive leather grade' interiors next year. Right now you are limited to three possibilities in the '08 S63 - Designo Sand/Black, Corteccia and Porcelain - at $11,540 for the privilege. Z356

Please confirm...
white07-w211: Could you double check with your Dad on the pricing he got on his '08 S550 4-Matic. I seems highly unlikely that if the true MSRP (no added dealer mark-up or add-ons) was really $104K, the dealer would have discounted it below his invoice cost (around $97-98K) to get to your reported $96K price. It is important that people post on this forum information that is correct, otherwise it creates unrealistic expectations from members trying to negotiate a reasonable price on their new cars. Thanks. Z356

Indeed, 600 interior is superb...
In fact, unless one is stuck in a climate where one needs 4Matic/winter tires/wheels (my condolences), would strongly consider getting 600 over 550...
Had both S550 and CL550....though great overall cars to keep one occupied waiting for 600/63 to launch/arrive...would def say 550 is a bit underpowered for fast fwys (esp for those accustomed to AMG/600 tq); 550 brakes are notably weaker than those of 600/63....and 550 interior leather/cloth headliner dramatically make one realize that one may have overly economized on a fundamentally discretionary $100K+ car....
Anyone considering S550 should also price leases on S600....in current economic climate, diffces may not be as material as one may guess....
Also would consider quality of dealer/salesguy....aggressive price-shopping to nominally save a few dollars on mthly lease pmts may quickly turn into losses if one wastes excessive time to obtain poor post-deliv svc/have serious warranty repair issues, etc.....have always been happy to let a competent dealer earn a fair profit and have always received exemplary svc from my usual dealers....and suspect well-run dealers treat repeat customers differently vs the one-off price-shoppers when svc/warranty/lemon law issues arise....and would guess well-run, svc-oriented dealers tend to have a deep base of repeat customers, rather than surviving on price wars to sell cars to one-off customers....

yes i check with him the cars has everything i believe but the pano roof on top of the price they gave him the bluetooth puck, tinted all te windows, k40 laser jammer, and rubber mats. On top of all this they gave him 79k for his 2007 s550 with just the sport package with 20k miles on it with a scuff on the rear bumper. It helps that we have brought the dealer a lot of customers this year alone i think we got them 15 customers.

My dealership keeps sending me reminders that if I send them a customer, they'll give me $200 towards service/accessories. I got one of those reminders yesterday in fact.

If that is the case...
white07: You now report that "It helps that we have brought the dealer a lot of customers this year alone i think we got them 15 customers." If this is true, don't you see that whatever 'special' price your dad got on his S550 is impossible to duplicate for our average Forum reader and that YOUR datapoint is absolutedly of NO use or value to anyone in this Forum trying to determine what is the best price they can buy for? So why waste our time with this type of gratuitous information and confuse the issue being discussed in this thread? Z356
