BMW wreck in Florida

What were they thinking?
Suspect socio-economics and career achievement levels predict driving behavior/maturity more accurately than chronologic age....
Some have/develop astute risk/reward judgment at an early age (e.g., many of the sharpest hedge fund traders/investors distinguish themselves in their early-mid 20s)....some develop risk/reward judgment later in life....but I suspect most guys never develop such judgment.....
Darwinian selection often prevails, as cars/driving entail serious physical risks....trading/investing entail mere financial risks....

In fact it's all over the web... an M5 at age 18? What were his parents thinking to allow access to such an inexperienced driver? (And no-one has the appropriate experience and judgement at that age) And at 3.00 am in the dark? Alas they have the rest of their lives to live with the consequences... a tragedy for the living as much as the deceased.

Personally know far too many notable exceptions (esp in Manhattan and SiliconValley) to view such arbitrary age-ism as simply laughable.....in fact, both the financial and tech industries are often fueled by ideas/judgments/leadership of many 20-something founders/senior execs (and I've known many of these guys to be rather safe, capable drivers of high-perf cars
)....interestingly, many highly-regarded elder (45yo-ish) statesmen in these industries were often similarly young superstars back in the '80s....In my expce, guys who were themselves young high-achievers early in their careers tend to be more comfortable allowing their young lieutenants to assume as much responsibility as they can handle....essential in any risk-taking/innovation-based culture....perhaps anathema to a simplistic chronologic seniority-based culture....
And I suspect parenting philosophies similarly vary as do cultures of varying industries/firms....w/varying degrees of "self-selection" and success....
So arbitrary - yes... A subset of 18 year olds may have natural judgement and appropriate caution with such powerful vehicles, but in lieu of actual driving experience/training I would assert the majority do not...

Skill and training does not equal wisdom. But I am repeating what I put on the W211 AMG thread.
