Red face I did it!! Silly me! Bought an S63 AMG

I know - this has to be one of the more bone headed moves ever made (selling an almost brand new 4 month old 2008 S550 with 1300 miles)...

But I just had to

Just had to get that "hand built Naturally Aspirated 6.3 liter V8 AMG"... and boy does it ROCK! Wow! I had never driven an S63 AMG before this - wasn't expecting the engine to humm and purr like an Aston Martin DBS or Bently! Unbelievable sound from the engine even at idling.... I knew I was missing something

A few things that stand out in the 2009 S63 AMG:

- AMG speed shift 7-speed tranny with M-S-C modes

- AMG ABC - This is the most awesome thing about this car. Handles like a BMW 3-series - takes corners as if it's a Ferrari

- AMG 2-stage ESP

- AMG High performance compound dual braking system with sliding calipers! This car stops on a dime even going at 90 mph+

- AMG premium leather with alcantara headliner

- The window toggle switches have been changed from the flat style (that was difficult to feel) to the push/pull style.

- The seat memory buttons now beep when set so that you know it actually registered the setting (as opposed to the silent functioning in earlier models)

Here are some pics - will post some more later.

All you need is a tint job and Venture Shielding and your set. I'd also consider a clear UV protection tint on the front glass. I'm doing that with my car to help protect fading of the leather and alcantara.

Wow! You sprung that one on us. That is great. You will enjoy it for sure.

The window switches certainly needed the improved design. Can't really see how they overlooked this problem from the beginning.

Welcome to the club - I'm sure you'll enjoy her - I know I still do every day and that's with 21K on the odometer.

Can you take a photo of the new switches ? I'm curious

Thanks

Congratulations! OK so you took a hit on the S550... but you are obviously so MUCH happier... and that is what matters... Look forwards and enjoy without regret!

If you think it purrs now, wait until you get past the break-in period and run it up to 7000 rpms. There may be faster out there, but none sound like the 63 does. You are going to love it and sometimes "making a bone head move" is just the right thing to do! PS - It looks great in black - Enjoy !

Congrats

Really should test-drive some of the more expensive, alleged sportscars out there....try to do it next time you're in BeverlyHills...

Suspect you'll quickly realize why so many car guys who can afford any car in world choose to drive new S/CL600/63/65; keep buying new copies; and seem to think they represent rather fair values, despite the depreciation....

Great choice! Nice wax job too!
We all take those hits on cars, but when you forget about it and enjoy the hell out of the new one, then it's all worth it...
The alcantra adds a nice touch along with that awesome engine. 550's are getting more common especially with the used market increasing, but the number of 600's/63's and 65's are relatively rare. Enjoy!!

austinguy,

beautiful car. Amazing color combo. the steering wheel sort of looks, if i may say, boring. There is no way for wood leather steering in s63/65? Any who, as always, enjoy in great health my friend!

Yup - that will be next. I will put the same formulaone (Ceramic pinnacle 35) that I had on my 550. It was just right.

What is "Venture Shielding"?

Tell me about it . Surprised myself too. I really wanted an AMG and I figured the longer I waited the less "viable" my S550 would get. Sure, the depreciation is most in the first year, but at the same time the more miles you put on the harder it gets to sell. The low miles were a huge selling point and in fact the salesman told me that they typically sell a used 08 S550 w/P3/iPod/AMG kit for around $83,000 -which is what I got . Still a pretty big hit compared to the $94,000 I paid 5 months back. BTW - 08 S550's are going for $13,000 off MSRP without any haggling

Yes, that was a good fix for the 2009. If you pull the switch once the window rolls up and if you pull a second time the sun shades roll across.

Thanks! I'm aboslutely ecstatic! This is the car I should have bought in the first place! Pretty much handles like a sports car. Still can't get over the engine/exhaust sound - it's a deep sound that's music to the ears.

Trade: $83,000

S63 AMG selling price (I paid): $124,700 (P3, iPod kit)

Thats a great price on the S63! Mind if I ask what the MSRP? I only ask because I'm also in the market for an S63 and would love to know what kind of deals the dealers are giving out

It's a brand of paint shielding for your car (stone chips, road debris, bird droppings, etc...)

http://www.ventureshield.com

After all the body work on my car is done, I'm going to get it done on my front bumper, headlights, hood (all of it), L/R side view mirrors, L/R front quarter panels, L/R side skirts, L/R Rear bottom panel, and rear deck. That may be overkill, but it's a must for at least your front bumper, part of your hood, and headlights.
