Are extended warranty prices negotiable?

Hey guys, I wanted to purchase the extended warranty through MBUSA from my dealer and was wondering if the prices are negotiable? The finance guy at the dealership told me it was not and I should not even try to shop around because it was kind of "set in stone" by MBUSA. He did tell me if I pulled the trigger on the spot he could get me a "courtesy" $300 off, which made me wonder if its anything like new car prices that there was an "invoice" price and he was just giving me the MSRP.

Thanks

i think he was lying. everything is negotiable in a dealership. if he can take 300 off he can take off more. shop other dealers.

Is there a way I can find out the "invoice" price or such?

Didn't you ever learned anything?
DO NOT trust a (car) salesman .Especially a car salesman.
I bought my CL's extended warranty at invoice.
Although, purchased 3 cars within 4 months at that dealer.
Anything is negotiable.
So, let another slime salesman walk.
Shop around, if time allowes...

From another post

MBUSA Extended Warranty info: http://www.mbusa.com/care/warranty/extended-limited.do

For a while Courtesy Motors – Chico, CA was offering considerable discounts on MBUSA Extended Warranties however, I’m not sure if they continue to do so. Lisa Lehrbaum was the contact there @ 800-655-3535 , 530-893-1300 , or you can try lisamariechico@yahoo.com – might be worth a shot if you decide to go with MB.

Best of luck.

MB Extended Warranty...

Late last year (Dec 2007) when I bought my '07 CL600 'demo' (it was used as company car by the dealer's CEO for several months) I negotiated into my purchase deal the inclusion of the Mercedes Benz extended warranty for 100K and 3 additional years on this vehicle (then the maximum term of the MB extended warranty available). This was in addition to the original 50K/4 year standard new vehicle warranty by MBUSA, which started for my car on July of '07. At the time (about one year ago), the price listed for this warranty was $4800 in the US. It is my understanding that our dealer purchased it for us at his cost, which was approx. $3900. So there was almost a 25% profit margin for the dealer on the extended warranty then. Earlier this year MB has raised the prices for all of their factory extended warranties, but it wouldn't surprise me if they kept the profit margin for the dealer the same. What you finally pay depends on your negotiating skills and the particulars of your deal. If you are planning to keep the car beyond the original factory warranty period, the extended warranty makes a lot of sense, especially in a vehicle so full of expensive gadgets and technology as an S600 or CL600. It will also be easier to sell in the used car marketplace. However keep in mind the warranty has no value if you trade your vehicle in the future to a dealer since it can only be transferred (my understanding) via a direct sale to another private party and not via a dealer trade. Yes the warranty is definitely negotiable. I acquired a 7/100,000 warranty just a few months back. I was originally quoted almost $7,000 just after the price was raised from $4,800. After pushing back, my dealer cut it down to $4,900 including tax. (And as MB also sent me a nice check to compensate for the fact my early 2008 model year S600 does not have Park Assist at the same time I essentially got the extended warranty for free)

thanks guys... I tried to bring up negotiation but all my dealer did was to pull up a screen showing the price (along with a surcharge of 15%) which he couldn't quite explain except "guess thats what mbusa wants" and would not go any lower than the $300 that he offered as a discount. When I called around, the lowest quote that I got for the 7/100k was $5800 and change but they wouldn't be upfront about whether that included the "surcharge" or not.

I think the surcharge is for purchasing the warranty after the car. I believe in the first year after, the warranty had no surcharge, followed by a higher and higher surcharge every year.

Would you mind PMing me or posting who offered you the $5800 price? I am also looking into purchasing the extended warranty. Thanks.

When did you purchase it? Also, do you know what the price was for 7 year/ 100,000 mile?

I got my extended warranty 5/75Kiles tonight for $3300 (finance guy wanted $6000) after I refused to purchase it 3 or 4 times. I did have to shell out another $500 down, but saved thousands. BTW, did I mentioned I bought an 08 S550 leftover for $83K (stickered $115K)???

Is there a price difference between the extended warranty on a S600 and S550? I know the 7/75k for the S600 is around 4k.

Has anyone ever had any work done under an extended warranty . The web is littered with horror stories of epic warranty fails as to what is actually covered. I have friends who were screwed with extended warranties not covering an engine failure (granted this was a Ford truck, but this was an Extended warranty offered by the ford dealer).

Heck the latest scam going around is people calling your cell phone with a recording saying "the warranty on your new vehicle is almost up, please call blah blah...."
I was actually quite annoyed, when the MBZ dealer tried to sell me an extended warranty on my then new mercedes benz in 07, saying if I didn't get it there and then that I'd be screwed when the warranty is up.

What exactly do people think they are buying, or hoping will be covered by an extended warranty?

Any work on Extended Warranty? Yes...

I purchased a 4 year/100K MB Extended Warranty for my MY2000 E320 4Matic Wagon back in Dec 1999. Although I kept the car only 4 years, I used it for over 75K miles and the second owner was able to use the remainder of the extended warranty. After the 50K standard new car MBUSA warranty was over during my ownership, the Extended Warranty came into play and I had items covered (typical engine stuff I now don't remember, steering wheel creaking issues, etc) by the local MB dealer. I now have a 3 year /100K Mercedes Benz Extended Warranty on my '07 CL600 (the 4 year term is no longer available, otherwise I would have chosen it). The contract I have with them (MB) calls for coverage of Engine, Transmission, Rear Axle, ETS, ABS, ASR, ESP, Audio, Satellite Radio, Navigation System, Optical Network, Comand, Modular Control System, Cooling System, Fuel Injection System, Steering System, Suspension, Brake System, Electrical System, Climate Control, Body, Central Locking and Towing. The following are not covered by the MB extended warranty contract: soft top (N/A in my case), headliner, glass or plastic windows, paint or trim items, batteries, cell phones. I would only consider a Mercedes Benz factory extended warranty. Contracts from third party providers for extended warranties would give me little comfort, especially in this economic climate where they might not be in business by the time you need them. Or these third party warranties might not be welcomed, or trusted, by your local MB dealer. In that case, they will ask you to pay and then you will hope to get reimbursed. Good luck with that! Saludos, Z356.
