My S550 is a MY2007 build date of 3/2006.

I was the guinea pig, but so far fishcake321's aftermarket lights are working just fine.

Attached are pictures of the lights on at night.

Thanks josephpampliega. Looks good. I got an email from fishcake with the pictures of these new FL tail lights; I am on the waiting list now. Price is ~300 plus freight.

Here's another link on ebay; Josephampliega, What do you think of these? How different are these from what you have and also, the price seem a bit higher on these as well. They are simple plug-and-play. No errors from what the link suggests.

S550
Hey how are you? I'm sorry to bother you but wanted to see if you can help me out. I just bough the new led front and rear lights for my s550. I have a 2008 and purchased the 2010 lights and rear sam. I installed the rear sam and back taillamps, they turn on correctly with both top and bottom LEDs working and no error message on my dash. The problem I have us gas gauge, front and rear turn singnals, trunk, and rear shade not working. I was told I need to go to the dealer and do a flash on my new sam. If you have any info I would appreciate any help!! The headlamps I havnt even touched! If you have any info on doing the headlamps and drl's as well would be much help!! I bought the headlamps with no harnesses! I was told you need 7 harnesses for the front!! Also heard that people have done it without the harnesses, so I don't know what to do about the front.. Any info you can give me would be nice!! A shop that can do everything for me would me good too!! Hope to hear from you soon!! Thanks again!!

I just wanted to chime in and say YES, the 2010 tails DO fit on the 07-09 W221. I travel a lot for a living and I just so happened to be in Germany last year and I went to the giant Mercedes dealership in Munich to buy the tails. They were available quite a few months earlier in Europe. There is a bit of trickery to get the wiring right, but it does work. In fact, I just bought another S550 that I will pick up when I get back from my current business trip, and I will once again be retrofitting the tails. I will do my best to take pictures of the hackery necessary for such a transplant to be successful.

If, in the mean time anyone has any questions about fitting these lights, it would be my pleasure to walk you through it. I am toying with the idea of doing a complete facelift on my new S (it is also a 2007 but better appointed and black) including the LCM.

Jessie,

You don't even need a rear Sam. When I did the conversion i was going to buy it but after reading several post I saw it wasn't a necessary expidenture of roughly $600 or so. If you don't get the Sam the top led row will shut off. Trick is to run s cosswire from the bottom row to the top,WITH the right resistors to make sure the intensity is equal in not. If you don't u will see the bottom row brighter. If the right person does this you won't receive any error messages. As far as the drl's I ran them from the headlights & cut off my fog lights, but serge55 told me he used 50w resistors & it looked good. Get at him, the guy is a genius. As far as the headlights, I haven't dived in there yet, the lcm job seems hectic & I spent 750 painting the inside of my lights so I'll do the change when I get some plug n play....

-For the front, you will need 3 control module on each headlight + 1 Front SAM + wiring.
Installing should be easy as I did this before on my brother's car.

-For the rear, you probably need the SAM to be flashed from the dealer.

Can you explain a little more about the rear taillight installing. I tried to run a wire from the top to the bottom with and without the 25w resistors I still have the error massage. What is the right resistor to use?

If I read right Ahmedito is referring to the taillights with a 25w resistor, while the 50w resistor was referred to the front led fogs?

Yes I was actually referring to the taillights, I tried 2x 25w resistor and same thing.

Finally got my taillights to work, In order for it to work like a 2010 you will need to have a 2010 SAM and have someone with a star diagnostic system to do a reflash..

I installed the ebay rear LED tails. They look great, and no hassels with SAMs, reflashing, rewiring, etc... Would love to see a plug and play option like these for the front!!

Just installed the LED license plate modules, lighted door sills, IWC Clock (AMG), concealed Passoprt Radar/Laser/Laser Shifters, Wood grain number pad cover, LED strip driving lights (aftermarket and mounted in bumper either side of front plate- but look great. Wanted to keep the stock fogs...)

Want to get the Video in Motion module soon... Any suggestions for other subtle upgrades?

RobertM, I just had mine installed at an alarm, stereo install place. Shouldn't charge you much. Just do a search on the internet for stereo install or alarm install and you should find one...

Also, some of you asked for pics, here they are with mods so far: LED driving lamps, LED Tails, Illuminated sills (4), IWC Clock, Integrated Radar/ Laser with laser shifters, LED License plate lights...

How did the shop that installed your taillights get both rows of lights to work without any error message?

I did my tail lights and had to change to a 2010 rear SAM. Anybody that wants to change their tail lights must also change to a 2010 rear SAM. The 07-09 rear SAM supplies more voltage than the new LED tail lights. If the currents do not add up, the SAM will shut down the lights after 20 min. This is MB engineering. Only way they will work without errors.

However, after running the car & lights for roughly 20 minutes, the left rear running light and brake light shutdown. Turning the car off/on did not make a difference. After the car sat for about 2 hours, the left rear light started working again, but then shutdown again after about 20 minutes. Then the right rear light also faced the same issue. Turn signals still worked, and also the reverse gear lights did too. The fog light in the rear left light did not turn on at this point, also.

Is there a control module in the '07 S550 for the rear lights that isn't compatible with the 2010 LED lights? Can I do anything to resolve this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Check out the pics - picture on the bottom is how the car looked before the new lights. The new lights look incredible when working :-) Make the old lights look like a vintage, outdated piece...

I had the same problem, but was lucky it happened at he workshop and I had to leave it overnight for them to take the electronic chip out from the old taillights and fit them in the new ones. It took some doing as they had to trace each lead and correspond it to the right connection. They told me that the new ones were not compatable with the new ones electronically without having to use the old ones chip. The whole thing with parts and all inclusive cost me less than 700$
