Updated 2010 w221 taillights on older w221
I was the guinea pig, but so far fishcake321's aftermarket lights are working just fine.
Attached are pictures of the lights on at night.

I just wanted to chime in and say YES, the 2010 tails DO fit on the 07-09 W221. I travel a lot for a living and I just so happened to be in Germany last year and I went to the giant Mercedes dealership in Munich to buy the tails. They were available quite a few months earlier in Europe. There is a bit of trickery to get the wiring right, but it does work. In fact, I just bought another S550 that I will pick up when I get back from my current business trip, and I will once again be retrofitting the tails. I will do my best to take pictures of the hackery necessary for such a transplant to be successful.
If, in the mean time anyone has any questions about fitting these lights, it would be my pleasure to walk you through it. I am toying with the idea of doing a complete facelift on my new S (it is also a 2007 but better appointed and black) including the LCM.
You don't even need a rear Sam. When I did the conversion i was going to buy it but after reading several post I saw it wasn't a necessary expidenture of roughly $600 or so. If you don't get the Sam the top led row will shut off. Trick is to run s cosswire from the bottom row to the top,WITH the right resistors to make sure the intensity is equal in not. If you don't u will see the bottom row brighter. If the right person does this you won't receive any error messages. As far as the drl's I ran them from the headlights & cut off my fog lights, but serge55 told me he used 50w resistors & it looked good. Get at him, the guy is a genius. As far as the headlights, I haven't dived in there yet, the lcm job seems hectic & I spent 750 painting the inside of my lights so I'll do the change when I get some plug n play....
Installing should be easy as I did this before on my brother's car.
-For the rear, you probably need the SAM to be flashed from the dealer.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Just installed the LED license plate modules, lighted door sills, IWC Clock (AMG), concealed Passoprt Radar/Laser/Laser Shifters, Wood grain number pad cover, LED strip driving lights (aftermarket and mounted in bumper either side of front plate- but look great. Wanted to keep the stock fogs...)
Want to get the Video in Motion module soon... Any suggestions for other subtle upgrades?

Is there a control module in the '07 S550 for the rear lights that isn't compatible with the 2010 LED lights? Can I do anything to resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance.
Check out the pics - picture on the bottom is how the car looked before the new lights. The new lights look incredible when working :-) Make the old lights look like a vintage, outdated piece...
I had the same problem, but was lucky it happened at he workshop and I had to leave it overnight for them to take the electronic chip out from the old taillights and fit them in the new ones. It took some doing as they had to trace each lead and correspond it to the right connection. They told me that the new ones were not compatable with the new ones electronically without having to use the old ones chip. The whole thing with parts and all inclusive cost me less than 700$
