Updated 2010 w221 taillights on older w221
He is suggesting I try a modification to get it working first. If that doesnt work, Il do that.
Could you do me a favor? Can you tell me how the rear lights are supposed to look during normal operation?
What I mean is, there is 2 modes, I believe:
When you are driving with your lights off, are all 3 rows lit?
When you are driving with your lights on, are all 3 rows lit?
Other then that they are identical...
Its about a 30 minute job.
You need to remove the carpeted walls from the left and right sides, inside the trunk- This gives you access to the lights where you can unbolt them and slide new ones in.
I purchased them on ebay from expresspart, and all the lights come on when the brakes are on as well. I like that vs the OEM because it is hard to miss that I am braking !!!

Thanks!
You can view the finished look thru my photo album, the lights were installed by a recommended MB service and repair (private garage) but I don't have the name or remember the exact street address in North Hollywood.
I have since moved to the east coast. However, the folks over at Expressparts can give you their name.
The install took maybe 25 minutes start to finish, the carpet is simply peeled back and lifted out of the way but not removed, a few plastic moldings have to be removed along the edge of the trunk, paid the guy 75.00 to install both and I paid a few dollars less for the lights than the website has adverstised because as you will see in my photos I installed the smoked lens instead of the clear.
Absolutely no rewiring or reflashing work required, plug and play as stated, and no errors and way less expensive than the OEM for the purists, I understand, but I am good with minor mods and adjustments your dime, your choice.
If you want to discuss in directly PM me and send your contact details.

#cg_msg_content DIV {MARGIN:0px;}If you or the installer can do it, we will be sending 2 black LED resistor as shown in the photo.
And what needs to be done is show in photos by the step. You have two ways to do it. Soldering or use tap splice.
FIRST WAY - Soldering:
Step 1. what you have received.
Step 2. un-plug the white plastic plug from the tail light
Step 3. cut off the white plastic plug tip and ready to solder to fuse the wires together.
Step 4. LEFT side should have BLACK to WHITE and RED to GRAY, if you solder the wires together and use heat shrink tube to shrink wrap once the soldering is done.
Step 5. Push in the new Black Resistor that we are supplying
Step 6. RIGHT side should have BLACK to GRAY and RED to WHITE, if you solder the wires together and use heat shrink tube to shrink wrap once the soldering is done.
SECOND WAY - Use tap splice, no soldering, this way is easier, but also less secure as sometimes the wires might get loose then it will loose the electrical contact, then lose the connection:
Step 1. what you have received.
Step 2. un-plug the white plastic plug from the tail light
Step 3. Use tap splices to connect as Step 4 and 6 for left and right sides following this simple instruction http://www.speedstersource.com/FISH/INSTALL_AE.htm
Let me know if you have any question, thanks.

Simon
Dear fishcake321,
Error message: Tail lamp, brake lamp, right substitute bulb on.
On the left light, only reverse, blinker, and very top bulb (not led) is working. On right light, only reverse and very top bulb (not led) is working. None of the LED for the top or bottom rows are working, and only the left blinker works.
I understand your policy states that I have 3 business days upon receiving the item to contact you if item has been damaged during shipping or isn?t what described in your ad. Today is 22 Dec 2010; I received the item 21 Dec 2010. The ad states that I would have no error lights on instrument panel upon professional installation. Also, it states that all LEDs would work properly with no modifications. There is a very good chance that these lamps where damaged during shipping. All I know is they are not working at all like your ad described. I would like to talk to a customer service representative to get more information on where I need to return this item. Thank You...

Dear skkons4,
May I ask what kind of issue you have?
Did you encounter error saying rear side marker, left, right..etc and the top half LED is blinking?
Regards,
Simon
These tailights are not working properly. I went to a professional bodyshop to have installed. The dashboard has taillamp inop light, and they don't light properly. I paid a lot of money for this product. I'll return in same box tomorrow...
