I was at a dealership in van nuys yesterday and one of the sales men told me to save my money and have the new lights fixed on the 07, and he says platinum motor sport on melrose should be able to do it,. Do you know anything about that?

Was it Keyes European? I asked them went I took my S550 for service a couple of weeks ago if it was possible. They said it was not possible for new LED's to be retrofitted on my 2008. What was the price they quoted you?
#108
yes it was keys,. I know, they usually tell you it would not fit, but i was told it would by a salesman and not a service advisor,. but its obvious from various postings on this site that it is possible, but dealerships usually dont encourage modifications, its mostly done by 3rd parties that pimp cars out,.. but im possitive if you buy the parts and can find someone who can work the assembly, it will all fit,. and also, mercedes cannt stop you from ordering any part you want, so if you wanna take the risk, go ahead and order the parts, they are obligated to sell it to you if you request it, regardless of whether they think it will fit or not,..,.

again, to clarify, i went to the dealership (keyes) to find a 2010, and the salesman advised me to save my money because it is exactly the same car, if you change the lights to the new ones, and he pretty much said he knows for sure it can be done,..

And the 2010 has a lot of invisible changes too. Try to locate the second battery to start with. The head unit follows the W204/W212 head unit approach, like integrated BT HF support etc.

two ways to do it:
1. Around $900 bucks for the lights, then add a rear signal acquisition/activation module (rear SAM) from a 2010 model, SCN coded in a 2010 model first then placed into your 2007-2009 car. Sam can be obtained for about $350-$400. Gonna be tough to find a tech to code the SAM for you in a 2010 S-class, but that's how mine was done.
2. Hardwire the new lights to the old rear SAM - requires wiring changes, should be cheaper. JonMBZ is member here and might have some information where this can be done in SoCal.
Figure $1200 on the low end, $1600 on the high end to get it done...

Well my taillights are done exactly the same way SERGE said. We got the local dealer to plug it into the new 2010 car, download the new code, then put it back in my car.
As for the headlights, I just pulled the trigger on buying the whole plug&play kit from Germany. Total cost is about $4500. Gonna cross my fingers. Should be here in a week or so, we'll see if the guy lives up to expectations....

Can anyone confirm if the very TOP bulb in the 2010 tail lights is supposed to light up? All of the LED's work in the one I looked at today but whatever the very top bulb that was not LED did not. Thoughts? I would assume it would for something or it wouldn't be there.

you gotta pull the light knob all the way to the right then pull all the way out (2 clicks). Then the rear fog light is supposed to turn on. Don't do it on purpose at night though for no reason, it's annoying....

By the way, I noticed today when I went back to look at the car that only the bottom section of the LED's light up in the tail lights. I know a few of you had the same problem and got it resolved somehow. What did you do to get the entire tail light working correctly?

Two possibilities: the car has the old SAM, '08 and '09 SAMs will actually drive these lights in this way where only the bottom rows are lit. The '07 SAM will run the lights this way also, but the lights will start shutting down after 15-30 minutes until they are completely off and the car has to sit for an hour or two before they come back on (happened to mine before I replaced the rear SAM). The second possibility is that the car has the 2010 updated rear SAM, but it was SCN coded in the 2007-2009 car. If it's the latter, the new rear SAM has to be first placed and SCN coded in a 2010 car with the lights and then installed in your car and connected to the CAN bus.
This might be a bit over your head - seems like you couldn't figure out how to use your foglights! Just playin!!! Good luck figuring this out, if you need some help, private message me.

I guess the problem is I don't know which SAM the vehicle has. I know they replaced the SAM because they showed me the old one. I just don't know if it was 2008, 2009, or 2010. Who do you have do the SCN coding and all that? Is it something the dealership will do?

Hello all...
You can buy prewired taillights from Germany. So you dont have to do anything. For frontlights there is a converter wire set you can buy and you need a new sam.

Dealership typically won't - you have to get to know one of the tech that will help you on the side..
