How much can I sell my 09 S600 for?

I bought my S600 8 months ago without knowing a body update was in the works for 2010. My dealer gave me a ridiculously low trade in price on a new 2010 so I am going to try and sell it privately. Im going to try putting it for 105k. Its a fully loaded black black S600 with 8k miles.

That dealer is in business to resell your car at profit and the closer we get to '10 model release ,the harder the sale of the current model gets.....

I just sold my 07 S600 a few weeks ago. List on on Ebay right away. Thats your biggest audience for specialty vehicle. Also list on Autotrader. Not sure what the market is on an 09 but if the dealer offered you 84 then maybe 95 to 100k. The changes for '10 is just a minor nip and tuck. I wouldn't be concerned with the update. Unless you need the latest greatest, you'll burn another $50k.

The best or nothing
What are the major updates for '10 S600? Will your new model also include improved ABC?

In a Net era, any computer-literate layman knows what's in model pipeline as soon as any dealer

Any good dealer and salesman that values repeat, new 600/65 buyers will provide a more generous trade-in and/or disct on new car to win your repeat business; sounds like you have a weak dealer; figure out who has the deepest repeat cust base in your region

If in CA, it rarely makes any sense to buy any car...leasing is far more efficient esp from sales tx standpoint

Need to value one's time in engaging in a private sale; screening crime risks of prospective buyers; and value potential liability/litigation risks of any private sale...time of most owners of $150K+ new cars is far more valuable than that of typical seller (or buyer) of a <$100K car...or any used car for that matter

600s, though superb cars, have some of worst trade-in value of any MB b/c of their codgerly image....only the >75yo codgers in BevHills/SF choose to drive new 600s (most V12 addicts opt for S65 or CL65 instead)....and any good dealer/salesman warns valued custs in advance re: this well-known trade-in value negative, esp as used buyers have "different" tastes (or lack thereof) and financial strength vs most repeat buyers of new V12s

Strongly disagree...leasing is just pouring money away and only suitable for those who see cars as fashion statements to be changed every couple of years....I like to own and will always do so

and the 600 retains its value better than the 65s, any "layman" could tell you that in today's internet era

Not exactly. People will always have an opinion of which is better, but I'm a person who likes to generally own a car for 5-7 years. I did the math on my recent '09 750Li purchase and leasing for 36 months turned out to be a far better result.

Especially given that you can expense the entire cost of a lease. A large luxury sedan falls under the luxury auto limitations which limits your depreciation deduction if you buy the car.

I mean if your 600 is stacked I would wait and see what the new updates are for the 10's and see what the new parts would cost you (ie; 2010 headlighs, taillights, software) and buy them and install them on your 09 it mite save you some money then selling and buying another 1

There is 1 used 09 S600 on Autotrader with an asking price of 112. Sounds to me like your trade in offer was about right. No offense, but belonging to this site and obviously being somewhat internet savy, you should have probably known some changes were in the works. Absent is correct in that once the new model comes out you are going to take another hit in value. So you need to act now or keep it and make some fresh updates as Payrent suggested.

This thread is not a good place for me to be. It's making me want a 2010 model (biting nails)

If you have a business reason for leasing your car, then the tax deductibility of the lease payment, as an expense item, can be enormous. The majority of new S-Class vehicles are leased and not purchased. Fashion statements are particularly beneficial when they are subsidized in the form of a tax deduction, especially when taxes are about to go up.

With the enormous tax burdens I have in my business along with reading this thread, I gave my MB finance officer (a really great guy to deal with BTW) a call today to find out what his lease offers are on a 600 and a 65 for 2010. My next one just might be a 36-39 mth. lease. He was really busy when I called and said he would get back with me in the morning. He would break it all down to me. Once I hear of anything, I'll post back the results and see how they stack up.

I have been watching you rationalize how you are going to keep your S600 "forever", and laughing to myself that an MB aficionado like yourself can only resist new model temptation, so long. I am glad I was here tonight to see the next "crack in the dam" as you continue the process of talking yourself into your next S-Class. Let us know what the numbers look like, as I am sure many others are right behind you. ( I just got a brake job ($$$$) on my CL63 today, so you may want to reconsider that S65 ! )

I forgot to ask. How many miles on your 63 to already need new brakes? And yes, I know about the $$$$. On my 600 , they wanted over $1000 for everything

The CL was delivered May 2007 and has 29,800 miles. The pads, rotors, sensors and labor were slightly over $2000 at a dealer where I am somewhat "connected". I contacted another dealer in the area and was quoted $3100 with the front rotors alone being $1224 a piece, each.

Service departments across the board are raping people since the sales departments are struggling. This is an example of that. There is no reason this can't be done for less than $1000 total.

To the thread starter, why don't you consider keeping the '09 until the 2011 model is due out? In almost every facelift/new model, one or more much lauded features have a delayed availability which often does not make it till one model year after.
