2007 S550 vs S550 with amg sport package vs S63 amg

Hey MBWorld,

I am in the market for a S class. I would prefer to buy a 2007 S63 amg, but I am more in the price range of a 2007 S550.

I was wondering if anybody can explain how the S550 with the amg sport package compares to the S63 amg (i.e. what does the amg sport package include)?

Thanks

Sport package is purely cosmetic

Front and rear bumper & side body panels are more agressive/ sporty & 19" rims

No performance changes at all from standard 550

The amg sport package does not have the same exact body kit that a S63 amg has though right? Just looking at pictures, it seems that the front bumper is a bit different, but the side skirts and rear bumper look the same to me.

So if I wanted the S63 amg look, best bet would be to buy a standard S550 and add on an aftermarket amg full body kit?

Best would be to get the factory S63 body kit parts, they are much more durable than the fake aftermarket kits which are mostly made from fiberglass and are very fragile. Also, aftermarket kits do not line up well and need a lot of mods, even the high end kits from Brabus, Lorinser, Wald, etc. To do the body kit upgrade to an S63 from a non-AMG 550 car you'd spend around 10-12k including body/paint. If you get the S550 w/ AMG kit, it's pretty close to S63 look, but you can change out the front bumper, screens and fogs and a rear bumper valance to allow for dual exhaust tips on each side and you'd spend half the amount.

Dont forget after the body kit comes swapping out the 19's for the S63 20's which will most likely be a couple k, plus the ride height is a little different......and there's always the tough decision in the end.....do you put that ///AMG badge on the car???

Yeah, I always frowned on people putting S600, V12 or AMG badges on cars that aren't packed with those features. God forbid you ever open your hood :-)

My wifes S550 proudly sports the S550 badge, no need to pretend it's something that is not. My CL55 proudly sports the AMG badge :-)

I like Jtanoyo idea of no badge too...

I second this statement. Purchase the S550 if you desire luxury and extreme comfort. However if you want these amenities combined with mind boggling performance, purchase an S63. Both are great automobiles and I do not imagine how you could be disappointed with either. If it comes down to finances do whatever is responsible, you obviously don't want to get in over your head on something like an automobile.

Cheers,

AMG1
