2010 E5504 vs. 2008 S5504
I am debating between the two. Would anyone care to share thoughts? I live in Westchester County NY and do a good deal of driving in and around Manhattan. I am weighing tradeoff between comfort of S class vs. handling of and ability to maneuver the smaller E in traffic - former 535xi owner.
Thanks to all in advance!!

If you do go for the S550, stay with the standard 18" wheels. 19" wheels don't take kindly to NY potholes.

i have no idea why BMW does not make an X version of 550i. I thought i read that they were going to, but a BMW client advisor told me they are not. I just ended a lease on a 535xi and we leased an x650i

Sonderklasse
S-class all the way. Totally different league. While the new E-class is impressive, the difference between the E and S are more than just physical dimensions. Even technology aside (e.g. the 2010 E will have Attention Assist for which a 2008 S does not; no deal breaker though!), I personally find the (understated) aura of driving and/or riding in an S-class a gap that most sedans out there cannot bridge, short of anything louder such as RR/Bentley/Maybach. Not even the 7-series.

Take a look at emilner's thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/new-s-cla...yesterday.html
I'm not surprised at what he's said.

I had an 07 E350 prior to my 08 S550. No comparison between the E and the S. While the E is undoubtedly a nice car, the S is just in a different league. I especially agree with one of the previous posters on this thread about how the quiet and solitude of the S just make every trip so enjoyable. Finally, I'm 6'2", and with my seat adjusted the way I normally drive, there is still a ton of room for even the tallest rear seat passengers. In the E, I was always moving my seat up, sacrificing my own comfort for that of my passengers.

Thanks... how is the AMG package? Are the tires ok in the bad weather and are these easily damaged?

Note: I know, polar ends of the spectrum, but that's they way car shopping goes. And to think I initially started looking at SUVs (GX 460/2010 Range Rover Sport).

I personally would stay away from the S400, the dealers cannot get rid of them (nor will you on resale). The E is really awesome, totally different from the S. One is a razor sharp canon, the other is a mature thoroughbred...

Atleast ya save on gas. As far as the resale Ed I think I would love my baby (my car) too much to sell it. As a matter of fact, I hope you don't say that aloud because your car might hear and be upset lol. But seriously the resale value is gonna be worse then a s550?!?!?

After driving both, I ended purchasing a 2008 cpo S class with 13k miles. Majestic Black with Savanah/Cashmere interior, P3, rear seat, wood wheel, ipod...My only concern was the size, however i was in Manhattan and Brooklyn in last 2 days with no probs. Car is so smooth, you don't feel the size....very relaxing and calming -- best car i have ever driven..I thought it was more of an old man's car but i just turned 40 and no regrets...

The mileage is insane, the previous owner must have worked from home!?! That's less than 6k a year, I wonder what the history is on that vehicle?

The prior owner lived half the year in Hawaii and half in New York, however, he was moving to Hawaii for good and did not want to take the car. I purchased at MB of Nanuet for 63k with the certification.
