Can you easily spot a P2 or P3 option on an 07 or 08 S550?

Can you easily spot a P2 or P3 option on an 07 or 08 S550?

This question is for my experienced S550 buyers and tenured S550 owners,

Can you easily tell if an S550 (07 or 08 model) has either the P2 or P3 option from just looking into the interior of the vehicle? I asked this in case I decide to buy from an auction or to prevent getting robbed of options from a dealer who prints false specs.

Not exactly sure if the vehicle vin displays all the options either.

For P2 vehicles, if you look in between the navigation screen and the speedometer area at the vertical stack of buttons, you'll see a button that disables/enables Parktronic.

For P3, if I'm not mistaken, it includes Night View Assist (not 100% on this) and if equipped, it'll have a switch for this next to the headlamp controls.

A quick way to see p2 is to look for the ventilated seat button on the door, if it has it then more than likely it has p2. Also, do non p2 cars have the little square on the door handles that you use to lock the car with keyless go? If they do not have the square then that is an immediate telltale since keylass go only comes with p2 or better...

Ventilated seats are part of P1, included in P2 and P3.

Only Keyless Go equipped vehicles have the square cut-out on the door handles.

I guess the only indicator that its a P2 is the keyless go square on the door handle.

the best indicator is the Night vision button, situated on the left of the headlite switch. this is the easiest indicator. good luck

although night vision can be a stand alone option, its a good indicator of the P3.

IIRC - there is a facility somewhere on the MB (or MB Germany) website that allows you to print a vehicle's DNA if you have the VIN. Sorry, no link.

Thanks, I wasn't sure about the ventilated seats, but most cars I have seen that have the V seats have P2.

It sounds like you can automatically tell a car has at least P2 just by looking at the door handles though....

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone has a list of options archived on the 2007-08 cars that are included with the P2 and P3 options?

Also, can the COMAND software in the 2007/08 models be upgraded by the dealer/SDS to include the current functionality of 2011? Is this show by the "Video" option being listed on the top menu strip?

Thank you

Excellent info - thank you for taking the time to respond!

Looks like I will shoot for a P3 since I am addicted to the active seats. They really make a difference on a long trip adjusting automatically to ones seating position.

If you're looking to add Night Vision I am parting out a 2010 S600 and have the camera and switch. Send me a message if interested.

Does night vision retrofit require new windshield as well?

Yes.

It is also worth noting that the facelift W221 has pedestrian detection and lane keep assist, and uses a different camera than the 2007-2009 model years.
