How to verify telematics update
Hi Guys,
Car is in at the dealer and they have told me that they've updated to telematics the the latest available. Is there a quick way to verify this? TIA!

I'm afraid Star Diagnosis is the only option to be sure. There are some features that help figuring out the version, like bird's eye view from early updates and later on the partial muting of navigation announcements.

Thanks DB. Its on the paperwork so it looks like its done. My invoice was 11 pages long. I had a boat load of faults, etc and it took them 6 days but it looks like all is now well.

If your car is an '07 then the ability to see a birds eye view is a telltale sign. I would also insert the nav disc you have to see if you have a newer version (8.2 is the latest I believe)...

I didnt think it had a nav disc. Is it not all hard drive based now? So it lookes from the thread that there is no way to easily check the software version installed.
Will have to take a look to see if I have the birds eye view. Have not seen it but I havn't looked for it. How do I activate it?
Thanks again guys. Much appreciated.

RTB- it is very easy. Check to see if you have birds eye view. Then look to see if you have a nav disc in the glove box or with your papers. There should be one somewhere. You are right that the NAV is HD based, but the software is loaded from a disc. Load the disc in the command unit and it will tell you what software version is currently loaded. I believe 8.2 is the most recent...

The car was pre-owned and I dont have a nav disk for it. I saw a guy renting one on the forums. I'll give him a should and see if I can update with his rental.
Thanks.
Thanks.

You can stop by the dealer and just ask them to insert a disc to see what software you have. It takes 5 seconds. When it is inserted the screen will say what the current software is and what the inserted disc is. You then remove the disc...

Where did you get this view? Like most control units, Comand too has multiple different SW versions, updates over updates. There are more recent software versions than the first one for an '07 that introduced bird's eye view.

So I've just been out in the car and I can't find any birdseye view so I am assuming that there is a different update or they did not use the update that had birdseye? Am I missing something on how to activate it?

I guess your car does not play DVD movies either then? The first telematics update also brought the option to display ETA permanently during navigation.
If none of these options exist, you would need the telematics update (the dealer should always update it with the latest software, once you convince them that they should take care of the update).

I am still learning some of the nuances of the W221. I have had two W220's in nine years. Command function seems much nicer and stable W221.
My 2007 550 has nav. v.7.0. I am unsure of the telematics update. Just a latest nav. disc won't do it? Do I need a telematics update and then follow that with the latest nav.version disc? Thanks.

You can check from the Navi menu if you have the "Bird's-eye view" option for "Map Display". Other options should be "Heading up" and "North up".

I must be honest, I finally found the birds eye view myself. Once you know where it is, its easy but I'm still getting used to the whole command system in the 221.
