need help/suggestion with winter tires
I have 20" AMG 5 spoke wheels on my CL550 4Matic
With 255x35 Continental tires. I know this is S class discussion. But S550 4matic has the same option for wheels and is actually the same type of car but sedan.
My questions is if it's good to use the same wheels with winter tires? Have anyone ever tried that to use 20'' 255x35 winter tires?
Or it is for sure better to buy 18'' or 19" wheels for winter. I was told that driving 20" with 255x35 winter tires may me very uncomfortable for my *** and may damage the wheels. Because winter tires are harder then summer tires.
Did anyone had any experience with that?
looks like everyone is using smaller wheels for the winter..
I will buy 18'' too
the only thing is that the price for wheels and winter tires will be the same as buying good winter tires for 20'' wheels
and won't work good with snow too
and I was thinking about putting winter tires on 20" wheels.. but owners manual tells that I need to use the same size as for summer tires (255x35).
And people tells me that winter tires are not that soft as summer. And driving won't be that soft and confortable. That it is better to use 18-19'' wheels and put bigger (more fat) tires. But actually nobody ever tried
So that why I'm trying to find someone who had experience with 20" 255x35 winter tires on their S or CL class

The one thing I would definitely recommend is not to use the same wheels for the switchover from summer to winter tires. Any dollar savings in not buying new wheels will be more than offset with extra wheel damage and TPMS issues.
I dont think spikes are legal in the US
I wish they were!
when are you going to put them? I'm curious if the driving will still be as good as with summer tires. I mean that it will not be too hard on roughness or pits
I can check with my wheel supplier in ft lauderdale if he can find a good deal on some tires for you tomorrow

and yeah after 22'' I'm sure driving on 20'' will feel nice
But in Sweden roads for sure are better then in where I live. I'm from Belarus
btw do your dealer sells wheels too? So maybe I can also compare price for the 18'' wheels and tires.
I have so many customers coming in everyday saying ohhh we want 17" inch wheels for our brand new audi a6 for instance because otherwise we loose all the comfort.. That was true if they were driving a golf mk2 or benz w124 but things change, suspension is much better theese days... And since its become much more "normal" for cars to be factory fitted with large wheels the big tire sizes are also much much cheaper
