What is the difference between this unit and the one from midcity engineering?

You need to have your MB dealer do a thing called " Telematic update". This allow you to play dvd while in park. This module that the seller is selling bypass the "park mode" so that you'll be able to watch dvd's while the car is in motion.

Can you explain how it accomplishes this feat? My understanding of how these black boxes work is that they trick the command software into thinking that the car is stopped which could mess with the NAV's ability to work properly in some instances.

Sorry about getting back late, I must missed your question. Some has DVD playback option and some dont. If you can play dvd in your car while parked, you are good to go.

I believe this shouldn't affect Nav... But I will give everyone a full report when I install mine... And to reiterate, ALL 2007+ S550's either do play DVDs or are able to play after a software update. This update can be done at the dealer and its something that should be done in any case as it enhances functionality of Command in several areas.

The Navi device certainly makes use of the speed signal. As long as you have a good GPS signal you may not notice any difference with or without the speed signal. Try areas with poor or no GPS signal. If I would install a speed signal filter, I would use one that can be switched on and off (from the steering wheel buttons).

Hey guys, got a message into the seller... All installed correctly, the light is blinking indicating a correct install and ... Nothin'

DVDs still only play when in park with brake on.

Yup! Buttons do nothing. Been through the instructions, online, etc...
The LED blinks properly (showing that the install is correct, but the movies will not play video unless in park, and brake as normal.

I may have a bad unit?

I'm waiting to hear back. By the way, have a flashlight and a good work area, the connectors are small and require a lot of patience getting it all wired properly.

Thanks for the tip. I should get my unit tomorrow,and I'll try get it installed this weekend. Hopefully I don't end up with the same problem,because that would suck. Just don't want to deal with the return/exchange if anything. Well let us know when you hear back from the seller. Sorry to hear about the issue man.

Does this unit allow watching TV in US vehicles since we only have digital broadcasts? Also where is the product made?

This product only allows you functionality of TV and or DVD while driving. You have to have the TV and or DVD functionality already. If you dont have tv now, this wont give it to you... So far I'm waiting to hear about why my unit is not working...
