Shaking Wheel at Highway Speeds

I just traded in my 2008 S550 for a 2010 because of several issues that the dealer could not repair. When I test drove the new car, the wheel shook at highway speeds which I assumed was simply a tire balance issue. So, I bought the car. Now I have been through all new tires, new bushings, and a new rack and pinion and the wheel still shakes. Anyone had this problem that was successfully rectified? Or should I look into getting out of this car? I don't want to go through what I went through with the 2008 car. More shop time then windshield time!

Thanks

Is it aftermarket wheels, oem wheels? Could be from a bent rim or just need a rebalance?

It's a common issue with all S class no matter what year it is you own.. Search the forum and you should have some ideas of what could be the problem could be.

I have a 2007 and have only experienced this with shot motor mounts. Mine is smooth as silk with new motor mounts.

Another possibility are the transmission mounts. Id be willing to bet it is one or both of those things. Being a new car they probably arent worn, just defective or installed wrong.

Remember the lemon laws and if they cant address this its new car time!

Wheel Shake

My 2008 never did this. Interesting someone said it is all the S classes because my shop foreman said it was 2010 and newer as they changed to electric power steering. Will ask about the engine and tranny mounts. I have read other posts and someone mentioned the drive shaft but they checked the angle of the shaft and apparently it was ok. Field engineer coming tomorrow. Such a great car to have such a problem.

Thanks

Yes, some people on these forums like to over generalize... I usually discount sweeping statements as logically, they dont add up...

Keep us in the loop! This shouldnt happen with a brand new car! Good luck!

I think this is a known (and fixable) problem on MY2010 non-ABC W221.

I had the same problem with my 2010 S550. They replaced the pump the rack and did the software. All to no avail. Mercedes give me a little help to trade for a 2010 S63 in lieu of using the lemon law. The 63 has ABC which uses a different power steering system.
