2010 S550 and iPhone - Big Bluetooth Problem
When making a call with the iPhone 4 in the S550 the call connects fine, but a few seconds later the audio cuts out and the radio starts playing. The call is still connected, thought. About 10 seconds later the call returns.
The bluetooth disconnects and reconnects like this continuously (with the COMAND displaying "connected" each time) at irregular intervals, rendering the bluetooth speakerphone useless.
Mercedes claims it's an iPhone compatibility problem.
Apple says it's a Mercedes problem and suggests getting a firmware upgrade for the COMAND (mine is the most up-to-date, according to the dealer).
If anyone knows a solution to this, please describe. Thanks.

I will try her phone with my 07 S550 (has a motorola "puck" for bluetooth).

How would I find these bulletins? I'd love to send them to Apple with a further inquiry.
It's classic and expected that when two companies are involved in a technology that each will blame the other when sonething goes wrong.

How many contacts do you have in your phone? I have over 4000 and think that this might have something to do with it, if only because it's one of the few variables among iPhones (and clearly not everyone has the problem).
Anyone else who has or does not have the problem who wishes to share the number of contacts or anything else about your setup would be appreciated.
The reason I thought of contacts is that one of the things mine does when it reconnects is that it immediately begins reloading contacts. Sometimes it gives me an error message about not being able to complete the contact download. Maybe it's crashing or timing out on the download?
Also, when the phone/COMAND is misbehaving like this, the contact list is invariably incomplete - lots of missing names when I try to voice dial.
I'll have to delete my contacts and see what happens.
While this is by no means definitive, it supports the idea that contact quantity or something about the contact file is involved with the "bug"
I'll continue to try the phone with reduced number of contacts and see what happens.
If anyone else could chime in with the number of contacts in your iPhone and the success or failure of Bluetooth on 2010+ cars, then maybe I could get an idea of where the threshold of failure is - assuming there's any correlation at all.
Thanks.
Would still like to hear from anyone else who has this problem (or who doesn't) on their 2010 and iPhone, and how many contacts you have in your phone.
Thanks!
