Mileage
Mileage
I recently purchased a 2007 S 550 and just sold my work car. I love driving the 550 but round trip comes out to about 50 miles a day. Should i buy another junker to get back and forth and keep the 550 as a weekend car? Or should i just drive the 550 and say f*ck the mileage? Do to many miles depreciate the value of the car drastically? I plan on trading it in a few years from now to get a newer one.. Please help!! lol

The depreciation per year is many times the annual fuel cost.
250 miles per week * 50 weeks = 12,500 miles per year
12,500 miles @ 20MPG = 625 gallons * $3.50 = $2,187 per year fuel cost.
Price drop of approx $50,000 over the first three years = $16,667 per year depreciation cost.
I would drive it and enjoy it.

I say both, but the cost of repairs and the value of the vehicle will certainly be damaged from serious use.
Think about the value of a 2007 with 70K miles and no signs of obvious destructive wear? While the resale value is negotiable, the visual value is still Amazing!
Rock chip windows, the collective brake dust problem begins to take effect, loss of paint luster, interior damage (smell), all the suspension problems that will happen from this Heavy vehicle, transmission problems, any number of service campaigns that will arise, etc.
I say, if you have a 5 year relationship scheduled; then Drive her into the Ground! But if you have Long-term plans for her, then treat her like an Astronauts Wife and keep her safe.

I drive mine everyday, all the time, known as the S500 W221, (5.5L), I actually like S550 better, but for narrow minded, worrysome markets, they call them the S500, go figure...
I'm considering the AMG S63biturbo and will still keep my S500, they the best cars in the world, S-Classes are the greatest mode of transport.
So if you have one use it.

I've been driving the car everyday and i can't get enough of it! the only thing that kills me is watching the mileage go up. I wanna thank everyone who replied and made me see the light lol 1 of the best decisions in life was buying this machine!
Just got mine on Tuseday with 57k miles on it W/O warranty...yikes.
I had a W140 for years (S350 diesel 381k km) was going to keep it another year.
The prices of the W221's have come down so much in the last year I decided to take the plunge.
I paid $40k with 2 sets of wheels with new rubber, Complete Fluid and filter service already done the day before I picked it up.
The Sottozero snows and OEM rims are worth $2k (in Toronto).
I enjoy all the infomation on this forum, it should help me keep the car going for 6 years...
Worried about milage? I put 550 miles on in the first 4 days...
