2007 vs 2008 S550?

I'm ready to pull the trigger on a CPO S550. They have 2 I'm considering, a Black/Black 2008 with 40,000miles and a 2007 Grey/Black with 32,000miles. The '07 seems to handle better (ie. almost no body roll) yet it doesn't list ABC as an option on the sheet the salesman gave me. I test drove 3 others and they all had way more body roll and were '08's. The '07 is 5-8k cheaper than the other cars but doesn't have wood steering wheel (I know it can be upgraded but it costs around $1300 new) and older Nav and Telematics (have to ask if they will update) Is there any other advantage to the 2008 that would make it worthwhile other than 1 year newer, wood steering wheel and no need for telematics update?

Thanks in advance,

Fulmitz

As an overview you can view marketing brochures http://www.ragtop.org/mbbrochures/

Thanks. Since I'm looking at CPO and we only have one dealership in town I only have a choice of a few cars. Options r pretty similar. Is it worth 5k to get a year newer? It only adds 5 months to cpo warranty. How much do they go down in value each year?

Interesting the variety in handling.
Did you check the Airmatic suspension settings (C/S driving program, Page 442 in my manual) were the same when you drove them - Comfort or Sport?
Same tires? Proper inflation?

I understood that the 2009+/2010 S550 went from hydraulic steering to electronic steering.

Your choice is a close call. I saw well over $50,000 depreciation in first three years before I purchased my CPO 2008, expecting much less for the next three, so the 2007/2008 depreciation won't be too much different. mileage and warranty differences are offset by the price difference.

Insist the dealer does the Telematics update and provides the latest Navigation disk (now version 10) - mine did, they also included the Bluetooth puck which works very well.
I do like the look of the extra wood in the cockpit on the steering wheel, but my vehicle doesn't have it. It's hard to justify the dealer price, but you can find other sources online or on these message boards for less.

Pick the color you like best? After all, you'll see it every day.

I like my Flint Grey/black combo, but a clean black/black S is beautiful too and has a different "presence". Let us know what you decide.

Yes all had new tires and proper inflation. There just seemed to be more body roll in the 2 2008 models. More suspension. Then I thought maybe the 07 had ABC but it doesn't. I think my fiance likes the 2007 flint grey/ black due to sportier handling feel. 8k cheaper isn't bad either. Plus the b/b smells like cigarette smoke. But it looks baddass!! Tint the windows black and it looks like a mob limo . I'll be picking one up this afternoon.... I hope!

check the engine serial number!

for the 2007, have the dealer to find the engine serial number.

and I would recommend to skip the 2007 if the engine serial number is *BEFORE*
2739..30 088611 (for engine 273 )

otherwise it has the risk of very expensive balance shaft repair.

see star bulletin attached in:

Thanks for everyones help. Im signing for the black on black. It's a year newer. They came down 2k to 66,900 and it's got the wood wheel updated telematics and a full extra year on tge manufacturers warranty. Plus no worries about the engine issue with the 07.

great choice! enjoy it in good health!

if possible, ask the dealer put a brand new cabin filter. That should help with the cigarette odor. Even if they won't, just buy it from the part dept for ~$60 (before labor)

the wood steering wheel is surely a very nice feel

now post the pic!

Congratulations!

What options does it have?
Was that $56K out the door or before taxes?

$56 is before tax tags and title but had a trade so tax was only on $38,000 It has P02, parktronic sensors, wood steering wheel, and Bluetooth integration (they gave me the module). They also threw in a trunk tray and all weather floormats
