Hey guys:

Shopping for an S550. 2008 on up. Which option is it that adds the stitched leather steering wheel center (as opposed to plastic/vinyl center) as well as the leather dashboard?

Not sure about the steering wheel, the dashboard must come with U09.

Pretty sure you can't get a leather dashboard on a 550.

If anything, its mb-tex.

Designo versions most likely have leather dash

hmm, don't think so. They did in the 220 version, but i believe the 221 only has mb-tex (minus the s600/65).

my S550 2008 comes with a leather dash and for steering wheels its a combination of wood and leather.

I took a look at like 20 s550s on ebay of various years, and I only found one, a 2012, with a leather dash

I couldn't find one 07-10 with a leather dash.

visit your local MB dealership and talk to them about the leather issue, mine is an S550 AMG package and comes with leather dash (top portion only), leather center console, armrest, steering wheel with leather center cover. I personally saw an S500 with leather glove box and dash board from top to bottom from a dealership. Was not interested and did not inquire in details and it was a 2010 model at that time of visit.

The Designos have full leather dash boards, airbag cover, glove box and leather everywhere.

I'm pretty sure that was not the case until the face lift because I've seen designo 07s and 08s that did not have the full leather package.

I believe this would be true to form as pre-facelift designo 220s also did not have the full leather like my 05 does.

This is a BIG deal to me so I'm glad to see full leather in a 550.

My wife's car is a 2008 Designo S550 and it does have the full leather interior.

Yup, certain special order Designo interior S 550s (07-09) came with full leather a la the S 600 with special ribbing on seats and door panels. However, Launch or Saks Cure editions with Designo interiors did not have the full exclusive leather interiors. In the U.S. almost all S 550s had leather on only the seats and MB-tex on all other stitched areas (i.e., door and center armrests, lower center consoles, and dash cover over instruments). This was also true for CL 550s. The real tip off is if your interior had ribbed seats like the S or CL 600s.

Originally I had to reduce the size of the pictures. One of my employees did it for me. This time the site would not allow me to repost the pictures since I had already posted them in 2008!!!. One our our fellow members reposted them for me.
