Question Tire question for those on 22's

Hey all, I am in the process of ordering some 22's this week and I'm pretty excited about it!!

While shopping for tires though I've come across a little issue. Based on what I've seen and been told, it appears that 245/30 and 285/25's are the preferred size. When searching for these sizes though the only ones I see that come up with matching tread pattern are the Pirelli's. The problem I'm having though is what the guy at America's tire company said. He said these tires don't have the right specs to bare the load of the S550. He actually didn't show ANY tire in these sizes that fit the weight requirement. So my question to you all is, what tires and sizes are you using? Are you just over inflating? Any issues with the tires not handling the weight?

Thanks for all the help!!

What, if anything, have you heard about the tire thing since you're trying to figure it out as well?

I know that requires removal of that tab in the rear fender well which I'm ok with. Does running 295 require a fender roll as well?

As long as your wheel off set is perfect, you won't run into major rubbing issues. You can run 285's tire for the rear, and that should minimize the chances of rubbing also.

Width is 10.5" and the offset is 40 for the rear.

Call one of the higher end wheel companies, and ask them whats the correct size. I forgot what my offsets are so I can't verify for you.

Thanks, these are coming from Vossen and I see them on quite a few MB's so I'm assuming they know what they're doing.

I also have Vossen wheels (Good overall wheels). I would do 285's in the rear. I have 295's now because I got a deal on the rear tires when I changed out my tires. And it rubs a tiny bit. So if you don't want to run into those problems,i'll go with the 285's rear tire.

i have some staggered giovanna forged F5 10.5 in the rear with an offset of 35 hoping these babys dont rub, i didnt want to go with a 295/25 from fear of rim damage but it seems like the only option.

22x10.5 ET42 295/25-22 (some use 285)
22x9.0 ET37 255/30-22

I use 295/25 on 10.5 ET42. Still have some rubbing after rolling the fenders. I reckon switching to 285 would have solved it.

toby, with an offset of 10.5 ET35 would you suggest going with the 285/25's? or could i go with the 295/25's as long as a roll the tab?

I would suggest 285/25 since ET35 is a more aggressive ET than ET42.

I don think 35 offset will even fit in the rear. Especially with a 22x10.5 rim? There's barely any room in the rear for our cars?

I think ET35 will be to aggressive if he lowers the car. It will be almost even as you say.

22's must be lowered. Unless you wanna look like a 4x4? Honestly I think 35et for the rear is not the correct offset for the s class...

thanks for the info phatisfy, im waiting on the wheel store to email me back on what offset the rims are. when i purchased the rims, caliwheels told me that they would fit a s550, i bought my mayas from them for my jaguar so i trust them. unfortunetly im at work and cannot check for my self at home for my rims are in the garage.

where do i check for the offset (ET) on the rims?? inside the wheel well? also i noticed you have 22's what lowering kit did you go with and rear tire size?

thanks phat and tobby

Well of course it's going to fit. But the question is, will they fit if you lower the car? When a company tell you "they'll fit" make sure you ask them "even if the car is lowered"? I onced ran into a major head ache once before when a company told me it'll fit. But comes to find out it fit only if the car wasn't lowered. I could not lower my car at all because the wheel was sitting right under the fenders edge. As for my tires, I currently have 295's. And the car was lowered using adjustable links. You can find the wheel offset by looking in the back of the wheel. You should see a stamp with "35et" for example.

thanks again phat, damn i hella appreciate all the info. i will definetly look into the links. i really dont know much about them for example what brand, front or rear, how much in inches to lower. tell you the truth ive never used links at all much less know anything about them. i know my car lowers and raises with a button. lol.

There's a few company's out there for links. The price ranges from $200-$300. You can even find it cheaper on eBay or in the member classified ad's.

I agree. My car is lowered also, but it's a bit higher than your car phatisfy. I could not have used ET35 since it's allready rub at ET42.

The fitment guide at this site says ET42: http://www.mandruswheels.com/appguid...nch_wheels.php

thanks for the info again guys. so im finally at home and took out my giovanna wheels i looked in the inside hub and only found these two markings: one on a sticker: FUO44FDG103220011S, and FDG103220011S inscribed on the hub. WTH is this?? i've tried looking everywhere on the web for Giovanna offset codes but cant find crap.
