Illuminated Sills from ForMyMercedes.com

Has anyone on the W221 group successfully installed these aftermarket sills from this site?

http://formymercedes.com/mb_results....l+Replacements

They are cheap and apparently not as complicated to install compared to OEMs. There are no install instructions that come with the kit but he has provided a link to a thread from MBworld by a guy who did this for his E class several years ago. There may other members who said they installed the same for their E class models on that thread.

I want to know if the same instructions apply for W221 or if anyone here has done this w/o much issues?

These dont look that good since they are just overlays. You put them ontop of the old sills. You can have mine with his 4 black boxes if you like....These install very easy. Just conect the cables to the interior light and your done.

Look like these:

I bought mine from Jerry at formymercedes and they are excellent, the
Only thing is you have to wire each unit to each door if you want them to work
Correctly, what I did was ground the wire under neath the front drivers side and
Passenger side then ran wire to each door and tapped into the light under the door when it opens, this will make it illuminate when door opens otherwise you can hook it up to courtesy under the drivers and passenger but both lights will stay on because lights underneath are always on, it took about 3 hrs to do so and it looks perfect and factory like

I have done 3 sets from Jerry at formymercedes, and they are perfect. I even ordered one that said Brabus.

Also, I took mine to the interior dome light metal contact (soldered) where the bulb goes in, when you open the doors it comes on, when the dome light is on, they come on, when the lights off, they are off...

the under dash light has 3 volts on it and is not good for the transformer, plus causes the dim underdash light to extinguish when hooked up

That's same way I did it I soldered it to the metal where the light is under each door, they come on and off every time you open the doors

The oem silver sills that say Mercedes Benz you gently take it up(off) then you lay down the sills they sent you, it has double sided tape but before you do that you wanna run the wires , on each side I ran black ground to the front under dash and grounded it, now people say they ran power to courtesy light under dash , the installer I got said that those lights stay on which will keep sills on so I ran red wire through the harness when you open door took off door panels and soldered it to the bottom of courtesy light on the door, they look 100% oem and even guys in dealer couldn't believe it

How to figure out the right wires to hook up to?

JT.550 / anyone that has done this before

So I just received the illuminated sills from ForMyMercedes last week (it was on back order) and plan to install it soon. I am sure I will find a bunch of wires when I open the door panel so would appreciate some details from your guys.

As I understand, there are 2 connections

1. Ground - Under the driver side. Black wire on sill hooks to this.
2. Power - Each door's courtesy lights. Red wire on sill hooks to this.

Is this correct. Is there an easy way to identify the courtesy light wires - i.e. specific color etc.?

Thanks, RT.

I just got done installing these, I took a much easier route. I took the rear door handles on the headliner off to access the lights up there that turn on when the door is opened. Also, took the weather stripping off and then ran one wire from the light in the headliner (+ pos) and got ground from one of the metal clips that attaches the rear door sill to the vehicle. I used the same wiring from the rear door sill to the front door sill. I was not comfortable taking off door panels, as its not an easy task on the w221. I am satisfied, and not one wire is visible.

I just ordered the white illuminated sills, should get them in about 10 days, i'll probably try your method of install as it seems more straight forward.
