I see many members have viewed your post, but did not respond. I can only say, changing the pad on the S Class is no harder than changing them on any other car as log as you have the right tools. One tool that is a must is the caliper press and you may need the brake wear sensor as well, but it's very easy to change them. Do a search on youtube, I'm sure you will find a video for it.

Well I don't agree with you ulflei, as for specific vehicules there are specific methods etc ..
Better to ask on a forum or anyone knowledgeable or have a look at the 'wis' then to be sorry later..
Unfortunately haven't done mine yet.. so cannot add anything useful for the OP..

Changing the rear brake pad of aW221 is a walk in the park.
1. take off wheel
2. release pin by using a thin rod and hammer away till the pin retaining the copper spring is release.
3. pull out spring retainer.
4. Pull out break pad sensor
5. using a flat rod pull back the caliper just a bit.
6. pull out the brake pad and your done
7. to replace the new one do everything in reverse.

ulfei I absolutely agree, but for knowledge base i see no harm in teaching, but safety is a must since you will need to lift the car from the ground and I hope you all will follow the safety procedure as always.

People have lost their fingers when changing pads from W211 and other cars with SBC brakes. Better to ask if not familiar with the model but indeed, there is nothing specific with a W221 (no SBC brakes).

On mine I had to:
1. take off the wheel
2. remove the spring retainer
3. remove the plastic caps on the caliper bolts (2x, behind the caliper)
4. remove the caliper bolts with an allen wrench (7 mm, I think)
5. pry the calipers open with two screwdrivers
6. replace the pads.
The passenger side inside pad had a wear sensor in it that I also replaced when I put in the new pad.
It was a very quick job but it took me a little while to figure out I had to remove the plastic caps on the caliper bolts to unscrew them.

I think the caliper release tool is a good buy for DIYing your pads and rotors on the W221. Plus having access to WIS and a good video off of youtube is also very helpful.
