Thinking about trading in my s550

Love the car to death except for the lack of power/throttle response. I need a benz simple as that but i can't quite afford the s63 yet. Thinking about some options ..what should i get?
Before my s550 i was looking at a few c63 and some low mileage sl55's but overall i concluded i liked the s550 most for everyday use and what seemed to be the most updated design/bang for my buck.
I just traded in maybe 3-4 months ago and I'm already looking for something new

Barolo Red CL600? Seriously considering this because of the price tag .. haven't gone as far as checking the VIN history yet but I'm pricing it out in my head and it all seems very doable right now. Any commonly known problems with v12 motor or CL body style i should know about before purchasing?

I put wheels on everything and this color is somewhat rare for the cl600 but what i really like about it is i can get considerably more HP gains from flashing the v12 as supposed to the v8 i have now... Any thoughts?

I think with a tune your car can pick up 35hp. for throttle response, a sprintbooster should take care of your needs.

Is the additional power/throttle response needed for drag racing? Car already has around 400 hp. Just curious how much power is needed in a sedan to and what would it be used for?

In connection with your other thread complaining about prices for airmatic suspension repair, the absolute last thing you need is an ABC and V12 having CL.

ABC repair is about 2 to 3 times more expensive than airmatic, if not more in some cases (tandem pump for instance). V12s still like to eat coil packs at $1k a pop (and there is one per bank).

If throttle response is your issue, have you considered a sprint booster? Its gimmicky and there is no performance advantage, but it makes the throttle feel more responsive.

I think they go for like $200. Might be worth a shot before you hose yourself with a car thats even more pricey to repair.

Thanks for the input guys. I've already purchased a sprint booster but it hasn't arrived yet so its obviously not installed. I've been doing my share of research & all it really does is send the signal to the ecu faster so i don't know if thats going to solve my problem. It may completely eliminate my whole "sluggish" feeling but its not gonna give me the Power. I don't want to shell out the money for a tune when i know i can get 110gains on a v12.

I like the sound of owning a v12 & the exclusivity that comes along with it. Im also looking at any 6.3 motor, Im a car guy and I'm going to love whatever i end up with.
Simply put i think its time to get back into an AMG (Warrantied of course)
Im used to having the maserati and paying 500 every time i go in for an oil change lol
Also, Range Rovers are known for suspension issues so The 1k repair doesn't bother me too much as long as its not a repetitive trend on the s550.
My ballpark is about 50k give me your opinion. Please share your thoughts

The newest version for the Sprint Booster has 3 settings. Did you get that over the old 1 setting one? Put your car in sports mode and use the paddle shifters to select your gears. That would solve you sluggish proble?

Thinking you want the exlusivity of AMG: do it and pay for it ;do not go cheap on the purchase ,but get a properly maintained one with history from the dealer or Indy and not an empty shell that has been beaten the hell out of..

W216 SL65 or SL63 going to be a tad more then 50Grand I am afraid ..
Why not get a bimmer M with plenty power or an E coupe AMG .
Maybe you are bored of the Mercedes Flagship and need to get a fast coupe AMG or M ?

I bought the 1stgeneration sprintbooster so i dont have any lose wires to deal with and i wanted to maintain the smooth stock feel while getting a better response. I will post a review once installed. Also i was looking at some 06-05 sl65 , so that is very realistic in the high 40-50k ballpark

Cl600 will have more power, specialy after a tune but trams response will be same crappy sluggish granny adaptive bs.
The only way I would go for cl600 if it has 5 spd trans that I believe now has aftermarket software upgrade. If its 7 speed like the s550 I would just hold out till s63. That's what I'm doing. I'm in the same boat. I love the car very much but trans response is sub par, specialy when you've been cruising and then need to zip in to a lane quickly. It just doesn't want to shift.

Edit, please post sprint booster review here. I was thinking about one but not sure. From what I can tell it basically amplifies signal so when you give it 25% throttle it thinks you're giving 50%. So that makes the trans shift more frequent, something it wasn't designed to do.
