2007 S550
07 S550 watching dvd movies
greetings fellow MB enthusiast.....I have been reading lots of posts and still somewhat behind the curve when understanding how to go about actually watching dvd movies with my little ones in my S550.... how do i get this to take place? thanks in advance.

First need to update the firmware to allow DVD playback and then a video in motion module from say midcity should do the job

Only MY07 needs the update for DVD. I don't know of any independent shops able to update firmware. Do a search here and you'll find a lot of possible updates for the 07-09's. For MY11 I don't think anything needs to be updated.

You must get a command software update from an MB DEALER. This will give you live traffic updates and video playback as well as other minor settings tweaks. Some dealerships know how to do it and others do not. I was told it couldn't be done by one dealership and I called a different dealership and it was done for my 07 S550 within 2 hrs.

It has been said many times in this thread and hundreds of times on other threads. The MY 2007 (US) W221 needs a telematics update for DVD video.

If you want to watch video in motion, you need in addition a VIM module but you can watch movies when parked without the VIM module.

Yeah everyone is absolutely correct. You need the software update in order to watch movies in motion. It's really nice once you get it to play when your in motion!

To expand on what Diesel said, VIM stands for Video In Motion and a company called Mid City Engineering makes them. Search Ebay too, you can find a good deal on a used one every once in awhile.
