iPod Interface Installation Questions

1. Could you swap back in the old one if you wanted?
2. Any weird issues?
3. Does it dim with the other lights?
Any other tips or learnings?

The tricky parts for me were that I needed to remove the fiber connection from my original COMAND connector and install them in the new COMAND connector from the Android cable.
Also that there is a cable with no English markings on it and Google translate was confused by it "Lady at the corner, donkey coffee" it said. There is a cable marked AUX that you need to connect inline to the right dash fuse panel. You have to remove the right dash fuse panel and route the aux line over the top of the glovebox, I used an electricians fish tape for this, but a straightened wire coat hanger would have worked. Once there you just disconnect the only connector on the fuse panel that looks like the AUX cable connector and connect the AUX cable inline. The other end of this connects to the Android harness at the "Lady on the corner" cable..
Also, I am using the MB telephone and radio and the Android maps (Waze) and Spotify. If I connect my phone's bluetooth to the Android unit I can play any media (Apple Music, Spotify, etc.) from my phone and it shows up on the BT music display on the Android. However, I have found that any calls made while the Bluetooth is connected leave me unable to hear the other party, but they can hear me. I've tried this with and without the MBPhoneSystem puck installed in the center console. I've not tested it, but I believe the speaker that comes with the unit is the way to enable called/calling party sound, so I just deferred to the MB interface and disconnected BT.
The unit is supposed to support Android Auto if you install it, but I don't really need it so I haven't checked it out.
Shipping was fast actually, considering it was China. Ordered on a Thursday and it arrived on Wednesday - 6 days including customs, not bad for 'shipping included' pricing.

The methods available (as mentioned in the Android thread) are;
- Use your phone as Wifi Hotspot
- Use a Mifi hotspot
- Put a GSM SIM compatible with the country you are in into the Android unit. I actually have a spare SIM but have not tried to see if this new-generation unit works with it yet.
I understand I could use phone as WiFi hotspot as you mentioned, but was thinking of keeping an old Android phone in the car with a SIM in. In the UK so we have an offer where you get 200mb free per month: https://www.tigermobiles.com/blog/th...ta-reward-sim/
Is that enough? Any real world figures I can find?

Guys, I have one related question regarding the installation. I drive 2007 CL63 AMG. I've watched a video showcasing COMAND system removal, however, it seems that it is based on S-class and on CL it looks a bit different. I've consulted my WIS system and found this kind of procedure:
So, basically it means the removal of the WHOLE front cover, instead of just one panel in case of S-class. Is this a correct procedure to follow on CL?
Thanks a lot.
1) Step number 2. I could only take the internal part of the cup holders out, not the whole unit. Should I apply more force?
2) Step number 4. I just take the plastic panel remover and take this vent off? It is not being hold by something like a screw?
3) Step 8. Don't really understand what is going on here. What are these wires in the center of console?
Thanks a lot.
(on my w221 it shows software and hardware version but on mine not the vol adjustment feature some kits have.... ) maybe on the later box....
Entering Diagnostic Mode:
Plug in your iPod, select AUX input and select the Audio iPod display on the cluster.
Now hold down the 'telephone hangup' and 'down arrow' buttons for about 8 seconds. The display will change to the diagnostic display and show the software version of the iPod controller
After a few seconds it will change to show the hardware version
If lucky... after a few seconds it will switch to showing the current volume setting.
If you now press the up arrow the volume setting will increase and the display will change to show the higher volume setting:
Pressing the down arrow will set it back to the low volume settings.
If you don't touch any buttons for a few seconds the system will then switch back to the normal audio display.
anyone success to change iPod volume by this procedure? Any possible for upgrade command for WW221 2007-2009 for ipod control via command instead of instrument clusters?
What I am seeing here is that THIS cable, which I had already in the car, will charge at 5a... So basically if I just go on ebay and buy an 08 ipod it will charge? That would be fine enough for me. I could put all kinds of good music and audiobooks on it.
Is this thing a joke or will it work?

there was supposed to be issue with the early box and either diagnostics or some features of the car played up... there was always a later box that did jack up the volume, but I'd never seen one, I thought it was the same but ending with a B but another recent post says this guy bought one in 2010 listing a part number I'd never heard of 67824567 …. I thought it was rubbish but a search came up with 4 ads on ebay all saying its for the 221. I 've got one coming (it was dead cheap - as are most without the wires) its hardware is 3 years newer and software from 10.09 and it called an ipod interface 2
on my car whenever you check on xentry for updates for the telematics, it throws its teddies "the control unit software could not be determined" yet all the kit works and aside from the early ipod interface its all on the vehicle data card. It was successfully updated by Merc main dealer in Oct 2014 and its all working. On another report it lists all the part numbers and software OK. I was wondering if its one of my modules in the wrong order but garage say not (Comand, Tuner, Telephone, TV, DAB) so I wonder if its the early ipod box....
I had some updates this year and since the ipod has played up a few times, locked the system up once, and I have a bug where the Nav mute has vanished, I'm still looking at that but this box might be an interesting one to swap out and see what happens
