wifi garage door opener questions

wifi garage door opener questions-chamberlain-20garage-20door-20opener_zpsghecojdy.jpg

Thinking about getting this wifi garage door opener so I can open my garage door with my phone from anywhere. And to solve the issue with my garage door opener only working 5 ft from the garage door.
Anyone using a wifi garage door opener?

I don't see the point of this.. I'd rather use the homelink in the car or the remote that a garage door opener comes with. Only time I open the garage is when I need to get something inside or park my car so I'm within the 5ft proximity.

I've been using x10 for the last 5 years and can open my garage doors from the app on my iphone. All you have to do it hook up an x10 low voltage module into the same receptable that your garage door plugs into. Old technology, but works great! Cost me about $40. I can also turn on all house lights, pool, fireplace, etc.

I want to open my garage door 1 mile before I get home. Plus it lets you know if your garage door is open or closed. Also if I have a friend or family visiting I can open the garage door from work and let them in thru that.

I have that unit. Took about 15 minutes to install and another 15 to set up the account. I have a remote starter with a cell phone app so I needed to be able to open the garage by remote smartphone app when I start the car to pre-warm it in the winter.

Not the best write-up, but the connections can be made right at the motor unit with the wires. The beauty of this is you can use it on LTE/or 3g, or wifi. Not sure if the chamberlain piece works without wifi? This was easier for me since I use x10 to do about 20 other things and I added this about 6 years ago.

You actually set it up from your smartphone via a Bluetooth connection and it then sets itself up on your wifi. The transmitter installs on the ceiling near your opener (larger of the two units) and has to be within the homes wifi range. The smaller unit is a position sensor you Velcro to the top panel of the garage door. Lastly you have to do a "learn" sequence on your actual opener so it accepts the new device as you would anytime you add or replace a clicker or add a Homelink device.

thanks for the feedback, I'll post some pics of the install and a small video of it working just for folks that are on the fence about these.

You're referring to Chamberlain's server? I've had a zero failure rate.
