The journey over the last few months

A little progress on the exterior transformation over the last few months. It's coming along...engine and interior and wheels up next and sound last.

It's a gem! Now what's this new wheel talk all of a sudden? I like those wheels. Besides, it's a 600...what else could you possibly do to the engine or interior? Reupholster it in mink pelts? Install a jet turbine like the Batmobile?

No! I'm afraid I'm going to have to draw the line. Audio is next. That is all. 😁

I was thinking something with more of a concave look....if they made these with the rears concave I thnk that would be nice. Also, still torn on these wheels being painted the obsidian black metallic that is no my car. I don't know!

Next mod should be to remove the V12 badge off the back.

Wheels are very nice as-is. I wouldn't change anything else other than Mike's recommendation of upgrading the sound system.

I was looking at something similar..they come in silver, machined and black. I just wonder why they are so cheap??

You should look at the DPE CS series. They have some really nice wheels.

I think the car needs a 20" wheel that "looks" as large in diameter as possible. That requires a design where the face of the spokes extend fully to the outer lip. If they stop short, the wheel "reads" visually like a 19" and will look too small. I also avoid black wheels in general, because they make the tires by contrast look brownish gray. If you can keep the tires dressed at all times they look okay I guess. What I like about the STR is that the spokes extend fully, and the color is dark but not black.

Yeah, I do like these. I guess I would just need to change the center cap and I'd be good to go. I just mounted some new 285/35's on the rear a few days ago too.

I'm trying to find pics of them on a W221 but I can't find any.

Yeah me either. Double check that hub bore. Might need rings which in and of itself isn't a deal killer but you might be stuck with that center cap.

The Vossen is a nice wheel as well, but I believe it's only in silver. The Niche Milan is available in that deep titanium in a staggered 20" and looks identical to the STR.

Wheels are really a matter of personal taste. That being said I think the change to black would be step away from a fantastic looking, classic S 600 that grabs attention for its Mercedes looks. I think the move to black might take away some of the classyness (Is there such a word?) that you've managed with the mods to date. Just my $.02 worth.

It is a word, as long as you spell it "classiness".

I've had 22's on my car this summer and i've been fine. Our roads here are horrible. Do you all use asphalt or concrete on your roads?

Asphalt....highways are perfect, it's just several streets in areas like DC/VA that have potholes and at night, you can't avoid what you can't see and then boom, blown tire or bent rim.

We use asphalt here too and they only do patch work on potholes which lasts about 3 months. I look like a drunk driver avoiding them lol. I've been to some states where they have concrete roads and that seems like a much better alternative. Its easier to fix and looks like the durability is much higher than asphalt.
