Is that a "yes"? You have insurance in force for property damage liability and bodily injury liability on your TL?

Newcastle is great. I am a Bellevue native so I am a bit biased but you cant beat the Seattle area.

The fact that it's even a contest ... Insurance vs Rims ... is why half the posters in this thread lament your decision making.

I'm boycotting this thread until Benzo here confirms he has insurance on his TL, and on the S if it's being driven. Usually when the wife has coverage but the spouse doesn't, it's because the spouse has such a terrible driving record or one or more DUI, suspensions, etc. they can't afford insurance. Can't be out driving on public streets with no insurance, period. It unfairly shifts the risk to those of us who carry coverage.

I think the OP said he lives in Georgia. That state is pretty strict with salvage vehicles being rebuilt. It states that rebuilt vehicles can be inspected at your home or vehicles have to be towed to an inspection site. No cars driven there will be inspected. Earlier in the thread OP mentioned he had a temporary tag to go to various shops. However, if I am reading this correctly GA will not issue a temporary tag for a salvage car. In addition OP will have to submit for an insurance inspection as well before insurance is issued.

More than likely OP doesn't insurance on the S.

From Washington State DMV website

Washington drivers may not operate vehicles that have been reported damaged, destroyed, wrecked, a total loss, or salvaged. In fact, you can't even park such a car on a public road.
You may, however, retitle a salvage vehicle, provided it has been inspected and approved by the Washington State Patrol (WSP) and you have paid all the required license and title fees.
To get a WSP inspection, contact the the agency and schedule an appointment at a WSP location. To drive a salvaged car to an inspection legally, you must visit a DOL Vehicle Licensing Office first to obtain a transit permit.
After passing a WSP inspection, paying the appropriate fees, and applying for a new title, you will receive a "WA REBUILT" brand on the certificate of ownership if the vehicle is no more than 5 years old. The vehicle is also eligible for a rebuilt title if it meets all of the following requirements:
The vehicle is is between 6 and 20 years old.
The vehicle is a used car, pickup truck, or sport utility vehicle.
The vehicle had a retail market value of $7,880 or more before it was damaged.

OP is driving a rolling wreck. It will always be a wreck. He might eventually get the rear end pounded out but as some have pointed out, when that happens this thread will end and so will the free entertainment. I only pity the future posters that seek advice on this forum and he attempts to offer it and it is viewed as reliable based on the number of posts he has made. In almost 1100 posts, he has posted nothing that could be considered useful or valuable.

So (and this is for my education as I've only been stateside for just over a year and still coming to grips with this whole 'salvage' scenario)..
What you've described is JUST to get the car registered? ie. legal to drive? (and transfer ownership of? or is that separate...)
And this process MUST be completed prior to getting the insurance you need ... regardless if it's the mandatory or full comprehensive?
Thanks for clarifying... who says this thread is non informative... heck i saved money today subbing to this thread

Yes I do Mike!

The Acura is also a Salvaged Title car.

The thread is informative. The OP however is not. What you are seeing is the knowledge base of Mike, Dave and several others.

Tomorrow I will drive to Oregon to do a transfer title($80). This will allow me to transfer the NY Salvage certificate into an Oregon state Title. Anyone from any state can go to an Oregon DMV and get this done. After the title comes in the mail in Washington state in two weeks I will wait another two weeks(total of 30 days), go to my Washington DMV and register the car in Washington state without ever having to inspect it. Hell, I could drive that wreck around without fixing it and have it registered.

Benzs55...
You live in WA ... but you're going into Oregon to get a NY salvage title transfered into Oregon and THEN you're going to transfer THAT across from Oregon into WA...
1. don't you have to prove you live in Oregon?
2. didn't you already have to prove ownership (title?) to get that new key?
3. what is the purpose of going through oregon and not just straight from NY to WA? (wait... to avoid the WA inspection? not judging here btw, if it's legal, it's legal)
4. once you get the 'WA Salvage' title, you can get it insured? You cant get it insured currently because it's still listed as non-op or something? (what does the title from the yard say?) .. i think this part confuses me the most. At which point is the car 'legal and registered' and 'insurable'.

cheers

1. Nope, anyone with a licence from any state can do this.
2. I have the NY Salvage certificate that was in Vlads Business name. His business is in Oregon(Oregon is 6 miles from my house), and he sold me the vehicle with the proper blue oregon "bill of sale" form. This Blue paper says that he has sold me the vehicle for 10.4k.
3.Exactly. Vlad, also told me there was a new law passed in WA that makes it more difficult to get the title After inspection.
4. Yes, of course. I did the same thing with my "Salvage Title" Acura 3 years ago. I just got it insured with full coverage, they didn't even ask to inspect it beforehand.

Maybe things are different in WA, but three years ago I registered a 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ with a salvage title in OR and insured it without a problem. Similar damage to the OP's S550. Drove it for a year and sold it for the amount I paid including repairs. Still miss that car, it shifted like butter compared to the new Rubicon.

No jurisdiction enforces the vehicle lawn ornament rule here in Washington or Oregon. If its on a public road and is undrivable then it may get towed if someone complains. If its on your property there is no issue.

OP is working the system like a fiddle.

Since we have new information that the Acura is a salvage tittle I wonder if some where out there on the old interwebs there is an Acura forum with a similar thread started by the OP.
