S600--Red battery light after 2 battery changes
Hi Everyone:
Own an s600 v12. Greatest car I have ever owned.
Two weeks ago red battery light popped up. Systems started to shut down. Both batteries replaced.
However, light still pops on. But not all the time, and not every day. Usually comes on after car is warm.
Took it back to the shop. A generic alternator code shows up--ec20--however, alternator is fully functioning and charging. Thoughts?
Battery module? Regulator?

The shop plugged the tester in and we got an error code 20ec. A generic alternator code.
BUT, the alternator is working and putting out full amps. How can we get an alternator code if the alternator is working?

Check voltage when car is running. Should be over 14.7 volts when batteries are charged. Drive around in engineering menu that displays voltage. Observe voltage when battery warning light goes off.
check accessory belt and tensioners
disconnect both batteries. Wait 5 minutes. Connect engine battery then connect trunk battery
let us know

Regulator is dropping out when the warning is on, most likely. As above, watch the info screen on the voltage display when it happens, see what you get.
I believe charging and the warning message is handled by the right front SAM. If it's always charging well and the light is on even with it charging properly, replace that SAM.

you need star/ das to obtain mb specific code.

To display voltage on a non-AMG, get in vehicle and close all doors. Assuming Keyless-Go vehicle, press Keyless-Go with foot *off* brake. SRS light should illuminate. Use steering wheel controls to access the TRIP menu and show no information in the center of the LCD cluster - only the digital needle. Then, press at the same time on the multifunction steering wheel controls "Answer Phone" and on the other side of the steering wheel "OK". Hold for about 5 seconds. You will see a menu appear. One says "Vehicle Data." Select Vehicle Data and press "OK." The voltage will be displayed.
Many people assume Engineering Mode is a COMAND-only feature.

It was the voltage regulator for me. For the DIY guys - this is not an easy one. It should be easy - just take off the alternator cover and bolt in the new regulator. But there is no clearance behind the alternator on the s600, so you need to take it off and everything is so cramped up there, it takes forever.
