Multi-Contour Seats

Good Evening,
I am the new owner of a 2012 S550. I learned a few days into ownership that the front seat Multi-contour seats we not working properly. Neither seat massage functions nor airbags functions were working. After a bit of reading and troubleshooting I found that fuse #127 In the rear seat storage compartment was blown. Replaced and blew again after power up. I assume this is this control power for these functions. The only other function that isn’t working is the rear headrest retract feature. Any assistance in narrowing this down is much appreciated

Good Morning,
If anyone could help out with a wiring diagram it would be much appreciated. My car is a 2012 S550 4.6L with multi-contour seats. I am particularly interested in where the load side of fuse #127 from rear seat storage fuse block goes. This fuse is blown and neither of my front seat work as far as massage or any airbag adjustments.

Best to have someone pull fault codes with MB diagnostics. Rear SAM f127 wiring diagram: http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html - input vehicle - wiring diagrams – electrical distribution – fuse panel – 783693 – wrmb12s013a in addition, see attachments.

Thank you

Thanks you Konigstiger
I will disconnect the pump first to see if fuse blows or not. I appreciate the assistance.

Pneumatic or Hydraulic

So I disconnected electrical connector from pump and fuse doesn’t blow. Pump actually smells electrical so I believe I have found culprit as well it doesn’t seem to turn freely as I would expect it to. But one interesting find while pulling pump, and removing four lines the Blue Line is draining fluid. Seems to be just water. The blue line goes directly to black box above pump assembly. I assumed this was just an air pump. Does anyone know whether this water is normal?

PSE Pump Rebuild?

Well once the pump was removed from the motor the motor hums along perfectly. I figure what happened is somehow water introduced itself to the system from somewhere. The pump itself or at least the impeller seem to be made of carbon. When I removed the pump from the motor the impeller was in pieces. I will try to attach a picture of mine and then a good one I found a picture of online. Does anyone know where I can get a rebuild kit for one of these pumps? Again my motor seems to be working just fine.

I assume this was caused by the water that was introduced into the pump

This is what the pieces should look like. One solid impeller with pieces that go into the slots

PSE Pump Impeller

Well water in line is not normal and that’s what caused failure of my pump impeller. It basically came apart. Once pump was separated from mother mother runs fine and does not blow fuse. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement impeller? My PSE pump part number is 0132 006 417. I found the following on eBay but seems a bit pricey for an impeller $203 EUR. https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Mercedes-SL-...-/263284646975

I will continue my search. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Prb a used motor is your best bet. I dont think to many people have taken these apart to that length. Ebay or used parts places are your best bet.

Thank you Konigstiger,
much apprciated. I have new pump assembly coming Friday. Picked it up on Ebay for $150. I feel good about having a good fix. I will check the reservoir for whatever valve was supposed to drain the water. I understand water being normal in any compressor system. This car was a Florida car which might explain a surplus of water. I don’t foresee it being that much of an issue here in AZ... Thanks again. You’ve been a great help in me understanding the system

Well I got new (used) pump from eBay today and installed. Fuse no longer blows, and all other fuses are good. Pump doesn’t run... When I select massage on setting 1 I hear something running in seat, but pump never turns on. None of the seat setting, lumbar, sides etc cause pump to run.

Does anyone know which pins on the 4 pin connector to jump to turn on to bench test? Pin 3 is power i believe pin 1 is ground. What I don’t know is which pin to jump to turn on. I don’t want to open case as it has “void if removed” sticker.

Late to the party, but are you sure the compressor doesn't run at all when opening the door? Not even a slight hum for 30 seconds or so?

If there is an air leak under a seat pressure will fail to build and the compressor will cut off due to thermal cutoff. That was my problem, a broken air hose under the seat combined with the fact the car was programmed with the incorrect seat codes within DAS/STARS.

Just shooting ideas out there for you to check.

Doesn’t run at all ever. I’m not positive I have a known good pump from EBay. It looks good and i can turn pump manually with fan. I don’t think this pump has anything to do with my doors. I think it is just my seats and my rear head rests. All doors and trunk lid soft close work fine, but that must be a separate system if it’s even pneumatic.

Well to top it all off it has a module. DAS can talk to it and you can instruct it to pump up or release pressure and it will tell you what BAR or PSI is sitting in the tank. Maybe the module went toast as well?

As for the doors, etc. has no effect. The car measures when you step in and thinks "hey, the tank is low, lets crank it up in case they want to use the seats while driving."

Hi.

It's too late but it will be appreciated if you have recovered the fault symptom or not.
In frankly speaking, I also got same problem, so I want to buy a new pump and test it before fitting in my car.
Did you find the test method how to activate the pump by mannually?
I also know +12V DC power line in the 4pin connector but I don't know how can I activate the pump by using of rest of 2 pin connector.
