The unit I bought is purely plug and play with one gotcha. After connecting everything, following MegaCrazy's diagram and the literature provided by the vendor, I had no sound. I then noticed the orange fiber optic cables blinking at me, so I removed that connector from the larger COMAND connector and snapped into the new Android/COMAND connector, all works as planned. I don't see much on the fiber options so I thought I'd mention it here.

For now I plan on using my phone's hotspot and see how much I need connectivity. Thanks to all the dudes on this thread, finally got to my comfort zone with price, features and ease of installation.

Yep had mines over a year now, since last April

Maybe this is old news, just installed this unit:
Was a bit frustrated about the missing voice commands from google maps,
Then i heard a very dim clicking sound from the unit when playing the "test sound" from google maps, hmmm.
Connected the big ugly included speaker to the dual white wires with the "horn" label on, and there it was.
Voice commands is playing through that speaker line, and i now have voice commands when listening to FM from OE system,
It works however no matter what source i'm listening to.
Now i have a better quality speaker hidden in the air outlet just in front of the unit... perfect.

hi paalw, I also have Japan imported W221. Did you buy the 10,25" multimedia system. If you did are all systems functioning? Were there any differences regarding wires/connectors etc? Would you recommend to have this set?

Just got around to installing this, completely plug and play on a US spec car with RCA ports in the glove box. Previously I was using a BT dongle running through this Clarion equalizer: https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...und-100-a.html
I'm still running through the equalizer but that may be unnecessary since the android unit has the function built in.

Has anyone had luck with an OBDII BT adapter and an app like Torque? From what I've gathered, the android build is crippled to exclude use of BT devices other than phones.

While searching for an OBDII solution, I came across this thread with some good info: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...reen-unit.html
I installed the recommended Car Launcher app, which works well.

I'm a little concerned having a full fledged tablet with personal information in my car. Is anyone aware of a valet-mode app, or a way to enable a password lock screen?

Hi,

Does anyone know if there are any locations/places that sell and install this unit for my S350 in the Toronto area?

Thank you
Jeff

When I search the vendors to buy a W221 one ... the package includes a lot of additional cables and boxes. LIke there's a GPS box, there's the speaker, there's something for the video I think, etc. Reading through the thread I understand that all those are optional (i.e. I can use the car's GPS, don't need the GPS provided in the package, etc.

My question is: is this really a plug and play or do I need to extend or replace wires within the car's "structure"?

If you have an AUX interface it's plug and play. If you have the ipod interface you can use my wiring instructions and it's not plug and play 100%. Connecting a couple wires is not rocket science though.

I have had mine installed for a while now and everything works. I was wondering if everyone else has to use the stock Radio thru the NTG Mode and then switch to AUX mode and go over to the Android side to listen to music from the storage. Should I be able to use the Radio App from the Android side?

I guess you are reffering to my post that I haven't got audio to work. I still haven't but it isn't a bug. The problem is my car that is a Japanese import. It has different wiring than the Euro/US versions. Still haven't got it to work, I have tried 2 different MOST boxes (one which says "W221 AUX 2010-2013", and one which says "W221 with TV") but still no sound. And I don't have the AUX wires as described further up in the thread, so I will not be able to splice the 3 wires directly to the main connector as described in the thread. So, I am a bit confused what to do now...

I am attaching the wiring diagrams for the EU/US version(1 sheet) and the Japanese version(2 separate sheets), if somebody would care to check them out to see if there is any hope for me...

Another question; If I connect the supplied external speaker, will it channel all sound from the Android unit? That might be a last way out for me, at least I would have speach for navi on android unit from the external speaker, and still sound from original comand through the original sound system..
Riivits, I think he's problem was no sound because of the lack of AUX wires. I have W216 CL500 imported from Japan, located in Estonia as well, and it has AUX wires in the Comand's main connector. They cannot be found from wire schematics which is odd. If you need help, I can take a picture and give the necessary pin numbers next time when the Comand is out again.

I'm planning to buy Android unit from CKM Car Design, and I doubt that there would be any problems regarding the functionality.
Btw if you'd like to save on shipping costs, 58.40 USD, maybe we can order at the same time.

Cheers.

Hi,
I was wondering what you might have done differently than me as far as the install. I can't play the radio thru the Android side of things and phone calls don't work. Did you install yours or did someone else do it? Maybe I need to change some settings that I haven't heard about, don't know?

I did my own install, all plug and play. There is no Radio that I can see in the Android unit, that is still part of your COMAND unit, accessible through the NTG Mode icon on the Android unit. Phone calls for my unit are either; through the original COMAND unit or through the Android unit with the additional speaker connected. Prior to connecting the speaker, people could hear me on the BT Phone app, but I could not hear them.

I really use this unit for Waze and Spotify, still making calls and listening to radio through the NTG Mode (original display mode) app on the Bluetooth unit.

dlafever,

Thanks for the reply. There is a radio app on the Android side and I thought maybe you were going thru that. I have tried using that but nothing happens. Which way do you like better for the phone, the COMAND side or Android? When you are using your phone thru COMAND how do you have your phone hooked up? I too am using the NTG mode to listen to the radio. It would be nice to have everything in one spot.

Ahh, ok. I don't think I've seen the radio app.

The COMAND (MBPhoneSystem) phone works flawlessly for me and as I understand it has a microphone that is optimized for the environment. By selecting NTG mode from the Android unit, you can used your COMAND wheel to select the phone and see the signal strength bars at the upper right of the screen. You can also use your steering wheel controls in the speedometer menu to see that the phone is ready for calls. Not sure if it is possible to have 'everything in one spot', although you could just use the BT phone but I'd guess you would still have the radio issue.

Samsung Galaxy S10+. I had an iPhone XS Max for two days and even though I got more detail playing it through the Aux connection the battery life was ATROCIOUS! For that screen size I expect at least a day of battery life. At the end of the day my S10+ still has 65% left.

How is the screen working out for you? Did you have a shop do this or did you do it yourself?

Mine is doing good. I'm still finding things to do with it. The only thing that I don't like and it might be me doing something wrong is when I change my audio to AUX on the COMAND screen I have to actually go over to the Android side to start the music. I was hoping that it would go there directly. Like I was telling dlafever there is a radio app button but it doesn't actually attach to the radio. It would be nice if it did. I do have pictures of my whole install if you want to see them.

I don't have to do this. When I start Spotify or the music app provided with the unit it automatically selects Aux input from the COMAND system and starts playing. Even stops when the phone rings and mutes when I reverse (based on the settings of the Android unit.) If you have to select Aux, I believe your Aux settings in the Android unit might need tweaking.

2012 S350 Bluetec 4MATIC; 2011 ML350; 2005 C230k;
I have few questions for people who purchased display from CKM Car design.
Does this display support wireless CarPlay?
Does this display have anti-glare screen? How's the visibility when direct sunlight? I found similar display on Aliexpress and it state that the display has Blue-Ray anti-glare screen.
Does this display has new MBUX interface?
Thanks

I usually get via private purchase direct from manufacturer as opposed to the sellers, I don't know who their retail sellers are, I can ask and see
