Reason 5,396 of why a Star/Xentry system is critical for these cars.
My passenger side rear window would not respond to controls to open or close. I tried it from the drivers seat and from the controls on both rear doors. Connected Star/Xentry system and updated the firmware for door module passenger rear and the window is now working correctly again. Had I went to the dealer it would cost me a minimum of doing the update I did myself or worse($) installing a new door control module. The system I bought has paid for itself at least twice between using it on my 2007 S550 and my 2004 S430.

My system is set up to do offline programming, I'm using a 2014 version of the system and the laptop that I'm running it on is not allowed to connect the internet.

Do a search here on this forum there's lots of good information available. Once I did the research using this forum and benzworld.org I purchased my system on Ali Express.

Xentry and Star clone systems have been out for years. Im looking at the newest wave of analyzers in PTEN magazine which compares them all.
Has anyone considered or used the AUTEL line? Like the $500 Maxidiag MD808P or better Maxisys MS906TS especially for module commissioning.
I dont feel like buying from china (their brands)

I don't see any of the non Xentry units offering the features I have used;
- Initialize A/C compressor following replacement
- Bleed off/restore pressure from Airmatic during strut replacement
- Airmatic function test
- Re-calibration of the IR camera following windshield replacement
- Update coding to change the headlights from Halogen to Xenon in the ML320
I'm sure they have value for common OBDII codes and such, but there are just a lot of areas on modern Benzes the require a sharper tool, unless I'm wrong, which has happened, but I don't think so here.
Given EasyPhil's example of updating the door firmware ... I'd say that's another reason.

Do the SDSz allow analysis with no IGN power on the OBDII port? Ive got a no crank 04 SL55 that wont link generic protocols in the shop

So, not sure about the IGN power. I do know that if it detects your battery is less than 12V or so it will not work, no idea what line in the ODBII connector it is using to measure that voltage or if it is just reading a value on the CAN.
