2007 S550 help me decide

I just found out that the car I'm looking to buy has fall under the timing sprocket issue engine serial.
Should I still buy it? It has 50k miles on it and consistently serviced at MB dealer. Would appreciate any helps. Thanks.

It is a gamble. Not all of the vehicles failed, but if it does the repair is several thousand dollars.

Have you checked the service records to see if the sprocket issue had been fixed? My daughter's E350 falls in the serial # range of the same issue for the E-Class. When I researched the service history, the vehicle went in for the check engine light and the sprocket issue had been fixed under warranty. Luckily for us, the vehicle was maintained by the same dealership from where it was bought brand new.

A very expensive gamble, which I personally would not take.

Yes. Its hard to find the vehicle with 1 owner, low miles and service records up to date so not sure if I want to pass the deal.

I didn't see the sprocket has fixed. Idler Pully, power steering pump, brake pads, tires have replaced. Others are engine module checked and vehicle serviced.

Much appreciated.

I personnally would take a high miler without the timing sprocket issue possibility, with extensive service history, over a one owner low miler any day.

I am obviously not aware of your financial situation, but if forking out anywhere from $4K - $5K is not an issue, then get the car if you like it and you are satisfied with it's current condition, mileage, previous ownership and maintenance history.

If this could be an issue, then keep on searching. The right vehicle will ALWAYS pop up as long as you are patient.

My 2 cents.

Can't you just replace the timing sprocket?

Maybe I should pass the deal. Car need to change the speed sensor p2768 and doesn't change first gear when test drove but changed smoothly later.
And also there is vibration on steering at 50mph and up. Probably need wheel balance or bent wheel. No rear camera or parking sensor make me not comfortable to park parallel. Getting lazy these days. Thanks.

Sounds like the correct decision to me, keep on searching and find the right car with the equipment you want.

Parking Sensor and back up camera are a great and very useful feature for this size of car.

Good luck, keep us posted.
