Engine Oil Cooler Leaking

Hi I have a 2012 S350 with a very small Engine Oil Cooler Leak. Just enough to bother you, or just enough to leave a small stain in someone's driveway... Has anyone had this issue? More importantly,, does anyone know of Recalls or Manufactures Defects on this issue. I am told that this is a common problem with all W221 's... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Jeff

Don’t know anything about your Diesel engine ... before I realized I’d posted regarding my gas engine.

If you keep a diesel-powered car/truck long enough the oil cooler will start to leak and have to be rebuilt. They are just gaskets and hoses for the most part. that leak.

Hi,

You are correct that it is a gasket issue; however, I am being told that you essentially have to take the top half of the engine apart to get at the engine oil cooler/gasket. Very expensive... So I trying to find out if anyone else had this issue, and how did they resolve it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

There are no S350 or any other diesel owners that have experienced this issue? Any help or thoughts would be appreciated...

All OM642 engines are affected with this issue. Parts are cheap but labor is expensive. I have same car - 2012 S350 and also I have small leak (couple drops overnight) which I currently ignore, but at some point I want to fix it.

Hi

I am being told to fix the oil leak, they essentially have to take the top half of the engine off to get at the gasket. That alone will be about $1,500-2000. Then you get yourself in the situation where if you already have the engine apart, what else should you replace... That could lead into several $$$ more. I was hoping to find someone who has already done this on the cheap, and gain any insights possible.

S350 oil cooler leak

Hi,

I have the same issue, my mechanic says it is a very common issue with this engine which is also used in the Sprinter van. $2200 repair for a $6 seal that Mercedes refuses to admit was faulty. As mentioned above the oil cooler is under the manifold which makes it a significant job. I believe there is an upgraded seal from Mercedes, but there was no problem with the factory seal (eye roll here).

I get a couple of drops a week, but I am going to get it fixed when the weather warms up...
