Hi, my name is Danny and I'm the owner of a mercedes s class w221 from 2008 and I have some problems with the distronic that I have experience for about 2yrs it started with one of the 4 front radar sensor that I have recently sorted, I had some problem with gearbox internal speed sensor that I have sorted, I had some problems with abs sensors that I have change them all. NOW THE CURENT PROBLEM THAT I HAVE IS AGAIN DISTRONIC. I own a mercedes star diagnostic and I have scan the car numerous times driving it and on stop and no faults, only time that I get only an information [ i ] not a fault, not even on the event I can only find it in the section all faults and events(history) on the Distronic module and it says N47-5 something as the connection is not good and someting about SRS(SRS can't be as it has been recently change and it works perfectly) I will attach a picture with the fault. No faults at present anywhere only an [ i] in the shadow hystory of Distronic, the problem that I experience now is distronic not working in the way of when I drive it where it meant to show the speed that you wanted it's only blinking 3 lines (_ _ _) and the car is not going in cruise mode,i will attach a video with it as well. Please please please who ever experience this problem and it could help me please I am desperate, I have driven this Carr for two yrs without distronic or cruise control. I need to mention that the car has Distronic plus and I have changed the abs speed sensors(Abs) and the value of it is corect on them is just this module that it shows sometimes and I don't know much about it if that is the one that could affect Distronic system.
you get the blinking if you have no currently set speed (first time after a restart with the key) and are doing less than 20mph whilst trying to set a cruise speed,
once past 20mph you should be able to set the speed.
with a speed set, any time you stop you should be able to "flash" the cruise stalk and it should attempt to reach set speed, so long as there's no detected vehicle in front of you
I think it has the stupid speed limiter functionality (never use), make sure its set for cruise and not the limiter
why can't it be an issue with restrain system... SRS means airbags doesn't it...
if u needed the parking sensors (you have visible type?) did it have a front end crash.. ? even a small knock will upset the crash sensors that are on the end of the chassis legs behind the bumper
Hi guys, so to answer your question :
The message (_ _ _) it has been tested after 30mph and it still blinking, not able to set a speed.
After a while driving and trying to set the distronic numerous times I get the message of distronic unavailable consult workshop manual or something like that.
I have scan the car with MB star and no faults rarely while I'm driving the car and start a quick scan on ABR I get not a fault just an event on the n47-5 module and that is where is getting confusing for me.
I was wondering if you guys experienced this kind of problem and another favour could someone who has an s w221 with distronic could make a short video from starting the car up to the point of starting the distronic and the steps maibe I'm missing something. Thank you guys
N47-5 is the ABS/ESP control module. You may have something as simple (and cheap) as a bad wheel speed sensor. I don't know whether a regular scan tool will show that -- I think my iCarsoft scanner will, but not sure. I know DAS will retrieve the events.
2008 car all 4 wheel speed sensors should be changed they all die around this age... however you should get ESP failed message and stored codes
things don't not work without codes unless something is failing to communicate / remember it
yes I was wrong the P at the top is NOT the P for Park.... BUT what's that P at the top of the speedo ? parking sensors pretty sure I don't have that, its not in my manual …. maybe that what you get with visible parking sensors rather than hidden radars ??
how are you trying to set the speed..... you lift the lever up when above 20MPH, with your seat belt ON and the door closed.
in the manual Distronic plus doesn't work if:
up to 2 mins after start
when the engine is off
if you press the brakes
if the electronic parking brake is on
if you are in P, N or R
if you deactivate ESP
if the bonnet is open
when the drivers door is open or the seat belt isn't on
it forgets on that list... but also doesn't work if you have it set on LIM (limiter and the lamp on the stalk is lit)
