2007 s600 Guard L Original price

I have searched hi and low to find the original price of this car.
I might be buying it. 60,000 miles.
Other than being a heavy car what are the disadvantages?

My 2007 S600 with Designo interior was about $140K when new. The Designo interior was a $10K option.

I always thought the Guard was an upgraded S600 with armor plating. Is that what you have?

Thanks for that. Yes this is the factory armored version.

How has your car held up? Any major issues?

Mine was an Embassy car with 55 K miles and got good maintenance at the MB dealers in the area. I bought it 2 years ago ($24K) and also bought an extended warranty ($5400) to cover it for 4 years and another 50K miles. Did all the MB maintenance and spent $7500 on the ABC, new engine mounts, control arms, serpentine belt, and a radiator ($5K covered by warranty) Recent work included a new ESP Control Unit (covered by the warranty $1500), transmission filter and fluid change, and engine air filters. The car now has 72K miles and I take it on a long trip to Florida and back each year. Great road car. Reliable and solid.

If you don't mind the maintenance costs, maybe do it yourself or else just pay an Indie or a MB dealer to keep it nice; these cars are the finest in the World. I love mine and want another one maybe a 2016.

That's interesting, I've never seen a 600 come with the AMG kit.

@mbxlr8 Nice looking S-Class. Only downsides other than normal W221 or V12 traits, would be fuel economy penalty from heavier weight, and the guard-unique parts which may be hard to find if replacement is needed. Main items I am thinking of are glass all around. If the armored glass can be replaced with standard glass, this would be good.

IIRC, they had trouble supplying Distronic units in 2007, so they added the AMG exterior package as compensation for those vehicles without it.

Just remember that without the oxygen and fire suppression systems, you’re still vulnerable to Molotov cocktails. And a shaped charge is going right through those windows.

If you have the vin number try monroneylabels.com. Only $8 and I'd be curious what it spits out.

I wouldn’t be as concerned with the glass itself as I would the hydraulics to raise and lower the windows. It sure would be a quiet ride, though, even for an S class which is pretty quiet to begin with.

@DaleB What is your concern with the hydraulics to raise the lower the windows?

Well, let’s see... hydraulic plumbing to each door, another hydraulic pump, four hydraulic actuator mechanisms. That’s a mess of hydraulics that will not run forever without maintenance and replacement, and somehow I don’t think repair parts for all of that would be quite as common as the regular window regulators.

lookimg at the specs... the thing is incredibly heavy with a curb weight of something over 8,000 pounds, with exceedingly poor gas mileage. Not what I’d choose for, well, most anything unless I just wanted the bragging rights of driving a bulletproof car.

Maybe that’s just me.

WIS is very cautious in reminding technicians to either open a window or double check that they keys are outside the car when servicing the vehicle equipped with GUARD. If the keys are somehow locked in the vehicle, I suspect a plasma cutter, or laser cutting beam is required to gain reentry.

@DaleB Does the Guard model window lift/lower system differ from other W221 models?

Non Guard models use a conventional electric window lift/regulator.

Interesting. Yes, a hydraulic system from M-B, for example the window lift/lower, is something to keep an eye on. Similar to air or hydraulic suspensions from M-B.
