I have a 2007 S65 and the Audio pulldown menu in the command system did not have the Aux selection available. Since I live over a hundred mile from the nearest MB dealer having them add via Xentry programming was at best highly inconvenient. I bought this device from Naviks on Ebay. It comes with crystal clear instructions. Basically pull the command unit, pull the 20 pin connector, insert the Naviks device 20 pin connector jumper, start car, hold the back button on the steering wheel for 7 seconds. Command restarts and now "AUX" shows up in the audio menu. I then shut the car off and restored to original configuration and I still have the aux connection. I plan to install the Joyeauto WJME-3S tomorrow.

Very cool!!! I couldn't find anything like this when I was doing my install in August. Once you've got it installed, see if your A/C controls appear when you're in the carplay view. As my unit seems to completely change the screen's input, the A/C "banner" won't appear at the bottom, even if I am able to change the temp- I just don't know what direction/degree it's set at until I switch out of CarPlay.

The Navicks harness package was nearly $250 BUT it worked flawlessly for the one reason I needed it...to program the command unit to have the capability of an aux input.

I installed the Joye Auto device yesterday. The wireless car play seems wonky and maybe buggy...it worked but sometimes the rotary selector on the console worked well then would stop, I could make calls but I could not hear the other person, etc. That being said wireless car play in some newer cars ( i rent frequently for business travel) is hit or miss.

However, the wired car play works great. In all honestly, I don't care about wireless car play. It takes one second to plug my phone in and on a long trip I will need to charge it anyways.

For my installation I kept the weird star trek looking bluetooth puck installed in my center console and my phone still connects to it. My phone is not connected to the Joyeauto through bluetooth or wireless, only through a lightning to USB wired connection.

The carplay audio is totally separate from the video. I can have waze or google maps displayed on the screen and still listen to sat radio or the CD player. In this mode I can still make and receive phone call through existing MB bluetooth which has superior sound and microphone to the Joyeauto. If I switch the source to "AUX" I can make and take calls through car play as well as listen to pandora or i heart radio or podcasts.

I was extremely nervous about messing with the electronics of my car, especially given the kind of scant or not really thorough official information available on these carplay products. I looked closely at the ******* product. I watched a video where ******* demonstrated how their product has the capability to add the aux input by hooking up a laptop and moving some jumpers around on their supplied harness but that was all the ******* info I could find after searching for months on line. I wasn't at all comfortable with the laptop and jumpers and no instruction other than a single you tube video.

When I found the Naviks device I decided to go with Joyeauto because I was able to find more info online and in MB forums on it versus the *******. I will say the quality of the Joyeauto product and packaging is high. The wiring and connectors are equal or higher quality than what MB used originally.

Taking the command unit out and going into the dash is easier than I thought and the high quality design and materials of MB make it all go back together perfectly and easily. Far and away the hardest part of the install is stuffing the new boxes and wiring harnesses inside the dash and footwell.

the joyauto unit has firmware updates... I would make sure you're are on the newest iteration

ensure you push the right files at it

and double check the dip switch positions

you connect to the joyauto device - you don't want the puck in there as well that would likely get it in a tailspin ?

Telephone keypad of mercedes

Hello Everyone,

I have taken advantage of many posts here and I figured is about time I contribute. I wanted to share my experience with my recent installation of the Joyeauto carplay module (WJME-2S).
This all started with me looking for a better alternative than my OEM navigation on my 2012 s class since Mercedes decided to abandon the gps 3 years after my car was made which is terrible. I love their products but supporting the gps of a $100k+ car for only 3 years should be a crime in my opinion. To make matters worse the government in New England (where I live) has decided they need to change all the highway exit numbers to match mile markers making my gps near useless now.

Since I did not think Mercedes would care what I think as I bought the car second hand, I weight in all my options and decided to go with Joyeauto. I went with them since they seem to have a product that allows you to maintain the integrity of the car (aka not changing the look of the vehicle).

I purchased the kit, and it took about a week and a few days to arrive. The presentation of the packaging is nice and the connectors although a bit confusing are solid (there are some connections you will not use).

I should warn you the installation should be the same for any car with a build in aux or for cars that have the MDI connector. Owners of cars with the MDI Connector like mine will need to make sure you buy a MDI to aux preferably with a male 3.5mm aux connector to hook up to the radio. The way the module plays audio is using your auxiliary input. There are some models of the w221 (earlier than 2011) that may need a fiber optic adapter to work (I do not have any experience with the fiber optic adapter, but I wish you best of luck if that is your case).

To install it there are a couple things you will want to take apart for the install. First thing you will need to take out the cd changer/head unit. This is where the bulk of the connectors from the module will meet the factory radio connectors. Additionally, you will need to remove the glovebox. This will require you to at least loosen the dash wood trim (yes, the giant strip of wood, be very care full when losing it up. It is easier than it looks). I would also remove the cover that behind the mirror (the one that hides the rain sensor and cameras) to hide the mic. This sounds like a lot of work but there is no better way of doing this.

With the glovebox and cd changer out of the way is time to start hooking up your carplay module. Configure the module and connect all the cables and antenna to the module side (do not worry about the aux connections on both ends yet). Run the mic up to the area behind the cars center mirror and connect it directly to the module (behind the center mirror is best location I found to hide the mic and still get good mic quality; you can remove the clip thing from the mic and attach the mic with a small piece of tape). Once they are all connected you will want to put the module in place. In my opinion the best location is behind the glove box to the left there is a compartment/space between two modules. I placed my unit there since there is some space for ventilation and the unit fits there without needing to be force in (I do not think the module gets very hot but is never a bad idea to have some ventilation for a module). You will then want to run the cables over to the area where the cd changer/ head unit resides, you can to this neatly there is some spots that will allow you to run the cables between the glove box compartment and the radio compartment.

Next you will have to prepare your connections for the head unit. There’s only a couple that you will need to prepare prior to installing the cd change/head unit. One you will need to connect the pink OEM video connector to the gray bypass cable that goes to the module and use the pink bypass connector from the module to connect to the cd changer/head unit. The second connector will require you to remove the optical connection from the OEM square connector and install it in the square bypass connector supplied by Joyeauto. Once this is done connect the end with the optical cable to the cd changer/head unit and the opposite end to the OEM square connector.

At this point you should have end up with just the connectors you need to hook up to the cd change/head unit. You may now connect the cd changer/head unit back in, this time with all the module bypass cables installed. Once all that is plugged in the last thing to connect will be the auxiliary cord. Two important things to do at this point I would test the module make sure you can switch between the module and the cars infotainment system, connect to the module, and test all functions work, including the audio, mic, and rear-view camera. Once this is all set, re-assemble everything and enjoy!

I've had mine installed for a couple months now and no issues thus far.
when add carplay unit, telephone keypad of the car is work well?

my understanding was everything should work - but you toggle between the car and its normal features and then swap the joy audio overlay - but looking none of their pictures show the keypad ??? read the manual - except it protected on their site !

two solutions...

one) change the screen for a widescreen unit that's a widescreen android device
two) keep the correct height screen and all the std merc components and fit a box of tricks that adds modern features to the car

to get at the comand unit to play with the wires for option two above... FIRST RTFM - as u obviously haven't a few basic clues...

Get a big thick towel and lay over the ashtray and comand knob area...

beneath the heater buttons is a flap that folds down to get at the memory slot or on later cars to find replace the designed to die harddrive of the comand unit you find here.. - press in the top trim flap and it folds down....

now beneath the bit that moves is a 2" x 8" bit of trim - grab and rip it off going straight backwards - quite easy to do, and it shouldn't break
now get your glasses and a torch - in each corner of the bit of black plastic (roughly 8" x 8" is a small Philips screw - the two top ones get a hinged flap - the small bit pushes in to get the flap to fold out to reach the screw heads

undo the screws and the whole folding flap mechanism lifts out - put out of harms way....

now u have access to the comand unit retaining screws... deeper in and down the sides - undo - the screws stay captive !!!

the comand can now slide out pulling backwards... its slightly uphill - and refitting sometimes it like to sit too low and gets stuck ! try again

it will pull out enough to snag sharp edges of the casing on the leather trim !!!!!! use masking tape if hamfisted !
then as you try to reach the wires the bottom of the comand unit will trash the wood trim - hence the thick towel...
now you have the fun of the silly connectors - when u find each ones unique retaining tab and press them in 1mm - with the force of 6 million nm using your finger tips - they will all pop off easily !

be careful not to kink the orange fibre optic cables... or snag the trim (which is very easy to do whilst trying to look at the back of the unit which won't come out enough to see whats happening till you release all the connectors)

now you can pull the unit out of the dash completely and begin the fight of struggling with the new box of tricks
you do not need the battery off
it will go back in - get down and look - often you are too low and it doesn't go back properly

videos on youtube work better than words...
