How to remove 07 - 11 MERCEDES CL550 S550 Abs Pump Electric Module Control Unit

Hello,

can anyone tell me what tools are needed and how to remove just the module part of the abs pump. It looks like torx screws but nearly impossible to remove them as the angle and space to work in is real limited.

hell that's the most room ever...

should take at least 10 minutes... I bet disconnecting the multiplug takes twice as long as removing the 4 bolts

on a GM I had one snapped like a carrot

Using what tools? Torx 20 size? Can you elaborate on what you actually used?

Botus,

You replaced the brushes? Is this a DIY? I wondering if should I just send the entire unit in. Unless you think I can fix the brushes myself

Botus,

Amazon Amazon

Will these work? What type of screw is holding the module to the pump?

check youtube repairing BMW GS 1200 ABS, you have to drill a hole to get it to come to bits.... On VAG cars they made a repair kit available... not seen one but they are all the samething - the module on the GS looks the same as your S class

That’s completely out of my wheelhouse. I am trying to remove the module. I tried to disable the ESP/ABS via the cluster using the dynamo test. After driving for hours and then re-engaging the esp option the abs light stays off for couple of days only to reappear. I keep hearing it’s the module not the actual pump.

in the old days (15 years ago) it was a soldered link that falls off the circuit board and or was coated in special designed to corrode medium - that is a DIY fix inside the black box.

But they all got caught with trousers down, so had to find another way to kill the planet and steal $2500 - so they invented the sticky brushes in the pump motor - this is more random in time to fail, as if you seldom activate ABS or ESP it should reach 10 years, but if a bad driver, then it should get dirty around the 5 to 7 year mark, just like they want it... As the carbon dust builds up just enough to make the brushes stick - one could drill a hole at the bottom and wash out with brake cleaner. This is likely the failure mode you have, as it comes and goes as a big enough bump gets the brushes to behave for a few minutes. - Give it a whack with a block of wood it will be good for 6 months

Don't forget the 10 to 11 year deliberately aged copper wire in the ABS wheel sensors that always goes on all W221 - you should notice the extra beeps and "random" park brake behaviour as another clue to this ABS sensor failure
