Thought it was the Clockspring but…

Hello All,

so I recently got an error code and searched the forum to see if anyone had this issue in the past. The code is 9290 which is related to I believe the steering wheel airbag. I was directed to think it was the Clockspring that was the issue but I replaced it with a brand new oem one and cleared the code. Only to have the code come back not even a second after driving the code. Does any one have any ideas?

thats the bit that makes the airbag go bang?
never seen anyone flag that error before
these days I'd double check for recalls first - its odd the takata airbag disaster hasn't landed on the w221- and then check wiring or even try another airbag - so many off the road now that might be a simple test

Funny you mention this. About 10 days ago I received a call from Mercedes-Benz that my car is part of the Takata airbag recall and I should make an appointment with my MB dealer for service.

That code is for your side airbag. It's either on your door or the side of your sea. Look for the airbag/SRS log either on the door or side of the seat.

What’s weird is that the light goes out after clearing it and sometimes it stays off for a while.

Did you ever solve this problem? I have the same fault on my W221.
You can clear the code but it comes back after some time

I didn't have that code - but used to get an airbag warning - oddly it seemed to vanish if I charged the battery fully - sometimes stayed off for 6 months at a time - then some bloke claimed it was the crash sensor on the left front chassis leg - the part was 20 mins to fit and $50 and its never been on for 7 or so years.....

only posting to say when it wants to be stupid it manages it....

Botus,

your talking about the sensor at the bottom of the B-pillar you replaced?

nope near the front radiator on the chassis legs - but that's highly unlikely to be your issue - (it was something like B42) but I guess somewhere the side has them too... however mine was a code with component location not just an error code....
