I have had it..... Click noise while driving solved ( broken motor mounts jigiling)

2008 4matic s550 , Fixed Blower, installed relay, for Amp (thank you all for your input!)
Took it out on a trip with fam and was left stranded at night after dinner an hour from home (starter).

Here Goes. I went to change the starter in a rush with little sleep..
started jacking the car from the front cross member... Jack slipped and went through the shield and caught the crank pully.
the motor mounts snapped but other than that no visible damage.
Changed starter, fired up drove a few feet and ESP error popped up.
checked sensor and its though the wheel is straight the angle sensor is reading 80 degrees tried to reset etc did not work now car displays esp abr abs.... "diagnostic mode"
drove ok otherwise.

tried to perform the reset to get out of "diagnostic mode" did not work and after it sounded like i had a playing card stuck in the wheel the faster i went the louder it gets.
Jacked up the front end and spun the front wheels and its making that tapping clicking noise... WTF is it.....
apologies but this car is getting to me ...
ill post some pics and video tomorrow..

4x4 or rear drive?

dropping off a jack till the engine mounts give up - doesn't sound good - I can imagine various wiring looms felt the strain

if its rear drive there isn't really very much going on re the front wheels - they go round - and if something is snagging on the tyre, rim or disc it could make noises
if its 4x4 did it fall on to the drive shaft and make a CV joint or trans box complain ?

it a 4matic, when a jack slip the wheels were still on. And it drove fine for about a day.

Is there an easier way where I can take less things apart?
Can I jack underneath the transfer case?

lifting the weight of the engine, half the gearbox and the transcase with a jack is not a good idea... if the bolt is accessible on the top of the engine mount - as per the first PDF (the bolt that comes out going up) and you carefully spread the load with a block of wood and something soft in between, can u ease things up to get clearance to whatever it is you need to reach - bit confused it shows a massive hole - I guess for the drive shaft to go through - if that's not where it should be something is still not fixed on mounts and or location of various parts?

you get one set of fingers and one life.... everything else can wait till its done safely

Well naturally I would put a piece of wood under the Jack and try to lift it from the front. Are you saying that you can't do that and the only way to do it is to get an engine hoist?

I'm saying its not a good idea - go careful - it will be heavy and it was only meant to keep the oil inside, not becoming a jacking point

I was thinking - if you watch vice grip garage Derek and his wife both throw jacks under old GM cars and trucks without looking, jacking up on a guess at the front cross member (because its massive and always in the same place)

this is not something anyone should do on the vast majority of European car's made in the last 40 years (even if you look at where you are placing the jack) - there is no substantial structure front or rear to jack up both sides in one go - its a huge no no.

they are ONLY designed to be picked up with an appropriate vehicle ramp or corner by corner on the 4 jacking points along the structural sill

at the back on a rear drive the diff is not attached to the car in any way you should consider using as a jacking point EVER and on front drive there is NOTHING you should put a jack near in the middle

lol, I love that.

Also, from what I recall there is a jack point in the front of my W211 and W221. I use my Quick Jack for most things these days though.
