Hi Everyone,

Today my command started turning on and off in a loop. I have attached the video below on what's happening. What could be causing this and what is the fix? Could it be a low trunk battery? Any help would be appreciated.

 

Hard drive possibly. You're going to have to scan it.

 

Power connection not secure? What is the history on this thing?

 

FYI: You can send your head unit back to the manufacturer (Becker) in NJ for refurbishment: https://www.beckerautosound.com/ If you look on the back of your head unit, you'll see that it has a "Becker" logo on it.

When I got my W221 S63, there were CDs stuck inside and the changer would constantly run trying to read them. I sent it off and a couple of weeks later I had it back and it's been great. I also bought their BT receiving module for BT audio. I had to install that myself as it installs to the wiring harness, not the head unit.

What's crazy is that I got my head unit repaired by the manufacturer for less than what eBay units are going for. So, it was a no-brainer. Pay $400 (plus shipping) to have it repaired by the factory techs or pay $600 (plus shipping) to gamble on an eBay unit.

 

whats covered by the refurb.... and out of interest I guess they don't post it back with the clock patch on there version release 423? would be interesting for you to post pic of the eng menus as found via https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ml#post8455957

 

I just did the procedure and my version is 422. And my current date is 8 SEPT 2003!

Would you suggest that I upgrade using the procedure in the link you provided?

 

well there u go - they don't know to push the other update at the cars - all on the link I gave above - if you can make a cd - its 8 mins to install the patch yourself - you could go back in eng menu and find the right info and well help you download the right CD - but my later disc here on post https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ml#post8468441 should work for all - but I didn't wrap the instruction in the zip file - but they are in the pdf on the post I direct you too above...

the original first disc can't do a USA and a European comand unit late 2007 they forgot them

 

My car is 2008. I may have a late 2007 COMAND. How do I determine this?

edit: According to one VIN decoder, my car was delivered 14 MAY 2007.

 

if you really wish to understand everything read the whole of the 315 posts in the link - otherwise download the file from https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ml#post8468441 unzip put it on a cd - remove all discs from the head unit - and with engine running - throw the disc in the comand unit - follow the instructions to get to the ENG menus and off it goes 8 mins later if outside it will find the date, and be entirely happy after its fully found its bearings

the specific question you posed - its another menu in the ENG choices - last number in this view (from your car) is the real MB number that matters, not the rubbish it says in other ENG menus, or even on a Merc diagnostic scan and printing F8




if your real MB number is one on this list and nothing is wrong with the disc or your car it will install - note BOLD numbers are NOT on the official Merc disc - they missed them

It looks like my head unit is indeed covered with the update.

Now I just have to find a CD-R disc...and my external CD burner...

EDIT: I was wrong. My head unit is not listed as being covered by the update...which explains why the update isn't working.

 

Thank you everyone for your replies. The issue ended up being the voice control module in the trunk. I just bypassed it with a fiber optic loop and everything is working normally now.

 

thanks for feeding that back - NOT the first time I have heard that - but its not one that sticks in your mind. Items on the orange fibre MOST network loop can be linked out using readily available jumpers.. (only the fibre - the power can be left connected to do what it likes)

So Sirius, DAB, TV, and as u say the Voice control, can be bypassed one by one or indeed all together - but the Comand up front and the Amp in the boot - must be connected in a circle or nothing could work

 

I was wrong. My head unit (2218700692) is not listed as being covered by the update...which explains why the update isn't working. It reads the disc and then reports "Update Complete" very quickly, and then when I check the version, it's still 422. Oh well...

 

???? did you grab the correct file to make the CD [2218700692-XXX]; is supported on the later disc, its why that later disc exists.... alongside this other european one they forgot [2218700392-XXX];

I think I used the ISO from post 137. I see that you put one in post 264. Gonna try that now.

 

Yup. That was the problem. I used the older version of the ISO and needed the later version. I just completed the update and my clock was able to save the current date.

yep we thought the issue where some people can't get it to load were bugs in the original disc with typo's on two head units, gave it a go and it worked - LOTS of your unit's number on ebay - maybe dealers are swapping out good units, just coz they won't update - as they have the wrong CD at the dealerships....
