Center armrest storage box button replacement

Apologies if this is an inane question, but I can't find anything on it on the web or in the forums. I have a 2012 S350 Blutek and the center armrest storage box button has broken off. I can find the part no problem, but can't find anything on how to replace it. Any advice? Thanks in advance!
Russ

eBay is your best bet here. But, you are not going to be able to get just the button. You'll probably have to buy the entire armrest.

Maybe look for one with obvious damage to the leather on top. That will be cheaper than a pristine example.

You may have a hard time finding one with the exact color you have, but you might get lucky.

Once you receive it, disassemble it and swap the buttons and/or the entire mechanism over.

Thanks for the response CQHALL. I need to be more clear I think. The part is easy to find (like you said, all over ebay). The problem is I don't know how to install a new one, and I cannot find that info anywhere. Any thoughts?

Ah. My guess is that it's sold as an assembled unit, so MB never made disassembly instructions.

So, at this point, you are probably gonna have to wing it and just start removing screws and using a trim tool to pry stuff apart until it opens up.

Yea, unfortunately there aren't any screws that I can see for the button assembly. I hate to start pulling trim apart and probably breaking it. Hopefully someone else may know. Thank again!

According to this Aliexpress store, the installation is ''easy and direct''.

If I have to guess, by judging from the pics, I think the spring goes into the centre of the button and then you simply push the button in (either perpendicularly or at an angle). I suspect the metal strips (as seen in your 2nd pic) will automatically go into place to clamp the button. Of course, I have not done it before and am just guessing.

Yea no :-), It looks like the new ones come with the silver trim in one piece. I can't get the silver trim off of mine (have tried to pry it off but think I will break it). No screws or anything I can see to remove. There may be a secret to pulling it out, but I can't seem to find anything on it .....

I think your best bet is to remove the old silver trim, and then install the entire new button in one piece (with silver trim).
This should be better than removing the new button's colour part and insert it back into the old silver trim.

Removing the old silver trim off should not be too difficult. You have the new one with you and so you can study it to see how it holds in place.
Cannot give more specific suggestion. If I come across new info, I will post back.
Good luck.

Yes, that's a good thought to buy a new one to see how it works. Just wish I knew as I could probably fix the existing one. Luckily they're not too expensive it looks like. Appreciate your help

It was a pretty poor design. If it's just the button and no other broken plastic pieces, you can try the replacement button from Aliexpress but chances are that there is broken plastic inside or else the button wouldn't have come off. You cannot access any mechanisms while it's together. You cannot take it apart without warping the plastic. You cannot epoxy it back together and make the mechanism work. Your best bet is to buy another one. You can take apart your old one and realize how horribly stupid the design was.

Thanks! Do you know how to remove the silver trim that’s still in there. I could just break it but there must be a way to remove it properly.

Another option is going online or calling some junkyards, finding a car with the same interior color and buying the door or the entire center console.

Good luck!

Sorry to revive this old thread. I have an S-Class too and I also need to replace that button. Did you finally find out how to do it? Thanks in advance.

I found the same replacement on eBay but I can't seem to just get the button because of silver trim, were you able to figure It out ?
