So the sirius/HD tuner is bad (MOST fault- open ring) - used jumper to get things working again. But no sound, CD shows it is playing and if I use bluetooth it also shows song and time, but no audio. Volume control does nothing, so I would think amp is bad - but pull up Xentry and go to tuner and can test each speaker individually and get sound out of all of them. With jumper on, Xentry doesn't show any faults.

probably the amp and integral AM/FM tuner in the boot is dead - go to FM radio - if the station data is missing in the display and sound are missing everywhere, the AMP is dead

its NORMAL and they cost stupid money - and few / none are successfully repaired - never heard of anyone in the UK claim a repair lasted more then 3 months

Will a replacement amp have to be online programmed (DAS/Xentry) for it to work, and same with Sirius/HD unit?

plug and play - many have success with ebay stuff - but it needs to be newer and lower miles and ideally with comeback - as everyone and there dog has dead ones
a few strange people buy a new Hyundai amp and it sort of works with no or very odd steps to get any vol control (its half price).. seems the hardware is very similar, but the control logic isn't manipulated to be a merc, and no one went and tested if you can flash it in to believing its a genuine one...

other modules die (but I suspect the sirius may be happy when its got a good amp), had a few this year where the voice control (linguatronic) module died. and I've heard of people thinking the euro DAB module dies (that's the option we get rather than sirius) - sits in the same place. The issue I suspect you'll have if the sirius thing has died, is pay and subscription fun - its coded drivel inside the module or the serial number is known to the content supplier...

I grabbed a Hyundai amp and hooked it up just to see if I could get sound - and I do. So at least I know it can work...

FYI- for a 2011 S550 using Hyundai amp for volume control it is controlled by the mute switch. The amp seems to keep track of what you do with + or - on steering wheel volume and 'executes' it when you mute and then unmute. Of course it takes a second or 2 for sound to come back on since it ramps up instead of instant.
For example if you press + 5 or 6 times then mute on and mute off - the radio will blow you out of the car :-)
And of course if you use bluetooth, you can set the car volume and use iphone/ipod to adjust volume up/down.
Have noticed the level of CD, SD, internal HDD is a lot higher than the bluetooth so be careful when switching back and forth.

yes Sirius/HD unit was dead - fan won’t even turn, so left it looped out with bypass fiber optic jumper
