Bent Wheels

My 2007 S600 with 19 inch wheels seems to have a slightly bent wheel on the rear passenger side. They wanted $250 a wheel and a week to refurbish it. I would prefer to have a new wheel but MB wants $800 + a core charge of $150. Looking for something a bit more reasonable but genuinely afraid of buying a used wheel on Ebay (I already have a bent wheel!!). Found an OEM wheel on Ebay and the seller will take a return within 30 days and he claims it is straight and unbent for $500. Just received it and will mount it this coming week and report back.

Anyone with experience in wheels? Are all MB OEM wheels refurbished also? If my old OEM bent wheel can really be refurbished, is it better than new?

The plan is to also replace the front passenger wheel after I determine whether the rear one works out. I did find a discounted MB front wheel 19 inch X 8.5 inch for $550 plus $150 core charge on the MB Parts web site. That may be the solution to the front.

I suppose the real solution is not to clip the curb and not to find the potholes but I haven't succeeded yet.

All advice appreciated.

Refurbish. You’re going to end up with bends in the future and you’ll bankrupt yourself if you replace every time. Just had my 20” forged AMG wheels refurbished and they roll as true as a new wheel.

alloy behaves strangely - I gather they heat treat to fix them, but then few bother to re harden them - so the inside of the rim becomes floppy and will likely get worse next drive
they will re harden with time - if you can wait 3 years between driving they'll sort themselves out

mate with a CL had his 19" wheels done and they are now all much worse

Find a local alloy wheel repair shop and have them fixed while you wait. I had two straightened on my BMW E90, and I was in/out in two hours.

While I don’t know if they’re perfect, they balanced out perfectly, and are round enough that 18” 40-series tires roll smoothly, with no shimmy.

Without any paint needed, was only $125/wheel.

Sorry to hear about it .
Refurbishment seems a wiser idea , if it's beyond repair you will have to buy new or used sets of wheels as well

I've had a lot of wheel issues. Three of four were bent when I purchased my "perfect condition, needs nothing" car. MB official policy is they do not recommend repairing a bent wheel. I refurbished and straightened mine...they've never seemed quite right, and now one is already bent again. I drive very gently, and don't recall hitting a pothole. I purchased a new set from Alloywheelsdirect in the UK. IMHO, new is the way to go, even if it is more expensive on the front end. On Ebay, you never know what you'll get.

I’m in the body shop business and we refurbish ALL the time. Just find a shop that does reputable work and you’ll end up with a true and straight wheel.

I think all "new" wheels from the dealer are refurbished/reman.

Update on my wheel.

I had the "New" OEM (probably refurbished) wheel from i1parts on Ebay mounted and balanced. It was very straight and better than the old one. Transferred the sensor and the tire, balanced it, and the car runs much smoother at 65 mph. I still need the front wheel replaced and if the price is good, i1parts says he will have one in two weeks. I will post results after that.

I kept the old 9.5 X 19 inch rear wheel and plan to have a local shop refurbish it. Now that I have an extra wheel, doing a refurbish is so much easier. Drop it off, and run.
