Voice control module

Guys, I purchased this car a few months ago and found it had no audio. I thought it was just the amp. I got a used one from ebay and it didn't fix the problem. I finally went ahead and got a fiber optic loop from amazon and well, when I got into the trunk today to test out the three modules, I realized something was off... there is literally no voice control module in the trunk. I thought it would be easy enough just find the plug for it and loop it to bypass the module and get audio back. Well.... i cant even find a harness for it. Im dead serious.
my question is, where do I begin l? Do I need to buy the whole harness? Im assuming it will connect the head unit and all of the modules.
I'm hoping and praying you guys tell.me an alternate location in the 4matic or something. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
p.s- I'm a diesel mechanic of 30 years so I know my way around a car. Just in case any of you think im just being crazy lol. Also if anyone has a part number for that harness can you please share it with me?

I got to deal with a Voice control module intermittently making no audio in my ‘08.
Driver’s side of trunk. Have to pull out the paneling. If your car has the speak button in steering wheel it *should be there.
It is about the size of a pack of Pall Mall no filter smokes.
Best wishes.

I thought it was a silver box mounted next to the amp. Thats what I've seen in all of the videos I've watched. Are you talking about the little black box?

Anyone have WIS and a couple minutes to look up the location of a VCM?

I know for sure it is in that area. Don’t recall it being right in the open like that. Seems like was behind a sheet of steel... perhaps that guy to the left of (is that the amp?).

In every video I've seen, it's been up high next to that little black box on the other side of that metals "wall"

Seems like in my 2008 it was in the piece of tin to the left of the amp down low. Can’t miss the fiber going into it.

Am I missing it in the photo I posted? My question is if it's not there, where is the harness? I hope they didn't cut it because I'm assuming it's a loop with the other modules and the radio all connected.

behind the rear seat.... I was looking a while back at photos online, seems they used over the years three different modules - but I thought every one is left of the Rear SAM under the seat pump

no - its not there and as far as I know never was... the pic u have is the left rear wheel arch.... according to this link, people say it a small bit in front of the Amp - but then he has another pic saying where I suggested in post #8

https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...tion-help.html

two says the bit you want is the red circled module here

So is this part of the SOS rubbish - rather than the Linguatronic module?

did your car ever have it? ALL cars get the button on the steering wheel, doesn't mean it had Lignuatronic - it was a useless system that didn't work when new, let alone 12 years down the line

I got my car used so I don't know. I didn't know all of them didn't have voice control module. I have the phone function and Bluetooth so I would think I had it as well

this is why the vehicle data card or a bad chassis decode effort (from link like the one below) really helps the next owner know what they bought

you must remember the people who can buy high end cars brand new, are total idiots with no brains and no clue about anything whatsoever - so the spec you get secondhand, is usually the first bloke wife opting for something no car should ever have, and what the sales guy could con the idiot into buying, or worse still, the bundle of inappropriate rubbish the manu got cheap from the supplier - and thus not what any self respecting car needs

Botus, I like you already. I can tell you shoot straight. Here's what I got. I notice it says s500 and not s550 4matic. But that's the badges I have🤷🏿‍♂️. So does this car not have a voice control module and only an amp and satellite radio module?

(the region that invented cars, and then designed and built these cars), Europe always named their iconic high-end S class as an S500 - they retained the name in Europe even after expanding the engine size and had kept it all the way till they invented the electric ones.... USA updated their naming of the w221 when they got it 18 months late as an S550

but today many brands have gone stupid - turbos have became so common, its meant the engine capacity is no longer really representative of the likely power output.... and as the bigger the number on the badge, the more the marketing team can con idiots into accepting a lawn mower engine at twice the price of a real vehicle... meanwhile some lunatic (and all the motoring journalists) feel they can no longer cope when going to the supermarket, unless their free battery powered self driving touch screen can do 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds

Does the info I posted give any explanation why I can't find the module or even a plug for it? I'm in my trunk as we speak looking but see nothing

if u understand excel - to split the list and re-order, paste the website info in cell C1 and paste this in A1

=IFERROR(IF(ISNUMBER(VALUE(C1)),VALUE(LEFT(C1,3)), LEFT(C1,SEARCH(" ",C1)-1))," ")

then in B1 paste =RIGHT(C1,LEN(C1)-SEARCH(" ",C1))

then drag the formula in col a and b down the list - then data sort col a1

****UPDATE***** I grabbed a fiber optic loop and bypassed the satellite radio module and got nothing. Then I hit the voice command button on the bottom right of my steering wheel and it gave me voice options that I never heard. I went to the audio sources and selected aux, plugged in my Bluetooth module to my aux port, connected my phone to it and BOOM!!!! I HAVE AUDIO!!!! Thanks for all the feedback guys. Especially you Botus

that's all rather strange !

I was going to suggest you unplug sirius as in your Pic, it looked like there is something right at the bottom left of your pic that made me think you have it - I even started to write you try this - then removed last night, as its NOT showing on the list of Options for your car

all of which suggests both parts were later added a 'non-official' retrofits - which may indeed be why its been a little strange - check this mess my car is doing .... and Note: DAB sits in the fibre ring where your Sirius sits !!!

https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ml#post8885330

FYI you have this menu look as its a facelift car and this Fade on and off option (thats gone walkabout in my car)
